Frazzie
I fully expect Cummins to stand out for Dundee. And whether you like him or not (I really fuckibg don't) having a former centre-half as his boss for a few months won't do his game any harm. one m in motherwell
It'll do him a world of good at Dundee, I think. Playing at an even lower division has obviously helped the likes of Craig Moore, so the experience is liable to be even better at a slightly higher level. Over the past few years we've been quite fortunate in terms of how well we've been able to develop defensive players (I'm thinking Hutch, Reynolds, latterly I suppose even Quinn), and I don't see any reason why any of the three young defenders we've got just now couldn't develop in a similar way. I'd say Kerr was probably the pick of the bunch, but Cummins' loan spell should give us the opportunity to see how he fares with a decent run of games under his belt. I'd still like us to bring in an out-and-out left sided player - Ainsworth clearly does a job on the right, but I'm not convinced about Angol as a winger. He offers something, but still a bit raw to be truly effective (a bit like Humph when he first arrived). With Ainsworth and (hopefully) Anier signing though, I doubt we'll see any movement in this window.
Ya Bezzer!
Can we get players on loan for half a season from Scottish clubs? I have lost track of the rules. I know for a while it was easier to get them from England because we could take them on 6 month deals. Jackson Irvine has been on loan from Celtic to Kilmarnock for the first half of the season. Lewis Toshney was on loan from Celtic to Dundee and Peter Pawlett was on loan at St. Johnstone from Aberdeen last season. Don't think there is any reason why we can't loan from other Scottish clubs, even other Premiership clubs.

Toxteth O'Grady
Here ye go.,.. Motherwell's McCall hits out at 'crazy' loan ruleFriday 10 January 2014Motherwell manager Stuart McCall has hit out at the "crazy" rule which prevents clubs loaning more than one player to the same club. Motherwell manager Stuart McCall has hit out at the \"crazy\" rule which prevents clubs loaning more than one player to the same club. The Steelmen have loaned Adam Cummins to Dundee and were looking to loan another player to the Championship side in order to finance the signing of Henri Anier, himself on loan from Viking Stavanger. However, the new Scottish Professional Football League set-up only permits clubs to recruit one loan player from any other team. Dunfermline signed Jordan Moore, Ryan Ferguson and Luke Johnstone from Dundee United last summer, although they will escape punishment as they were working under the auspices of the Scottish Football League before the amalgamation with the Scottish Premier League, which brought with it a new SPFL rule book. Ahead of the Scottish Premiership clash with Hearts at Tynecastle on Saturday, McCall said: "We have needed to get players out to finance the Anier deal. "Adam Cummins has gone to Dundee and there was an opportunity for another of our players to go there also. "It looked like that was going through and this new rule has come up. "We didn't know, Dundee didn't know, I don't think many clubs knew. "Since the rule book amalgamated, only one player from each club can go to another club. "I am flabbergasted. "It is more frustrating for us because we have been trying to do this deal which would help finance Henri. "We will no longer be able to get the finance from Dundee which were hoping to get from one of our players. "It is nonsensical. There is no reason why two players can't go from one division to another division. I think the rule is crazy. "I can understand not three or four but one only? And why should cross-border be different? "St Mirren have got two players from Newcastle. That is not a dig at them. "They are working under FIFA rules and we are working under Scottish rules. "Dundee United have loaned three player to Dunfermline and it has now come out that they have gone against the rule book but they are not guilty of anything, really. "It was apparently flagged up earlier so surely someone should have notified all the clubs. "I spoke to Neil Doncaster (SPFL chief executive) at length this morning and he totally agrees with me. "I think they have a meeting on Monday and that will be brought up." McCall remains confident that the finance will be found from somewhere to sign Anier. The 23-year-old Estonia international has been on loan at Fir Park since the summer. The former Bradford boss said: "There has been a lot of stumbling blocks. "I think we are almost there but there is no confirmation as yet. "We are looking to keep him as our player, to take over his contract and add a couple of years on. He is available to play tomorrow. "If it doesn't happen this afternoon, we are hoping it will be concluded over the weekend and he will be a Motherwell player." Meanwhile, Jack Leitch has been added to the Motherwell squad for the Scottish Premiership game against Hearts at Tynecastle on Saturday. The 18-year-old midfielder comes in for Adam Cummins who has gone to Dundee on loan. Defender Fraser Kerr (hamstring), goalkeeper Lee Hollis (ankle) and forward Lee Erwin (knee) remain out. Provisional squad: Nielsen, Ramsden, Francis-Angol, McManus, Hutchinson, Hammell, Ainsworth, Lasley, Vigurs, Carswell, Lawson, McFadden, McHugh, Anier, Sutton, Moore, Stewart, Leitch. NottsMFC
Delighted Anier has signed, really impressed with his movement when I've seen him. Great to get our business done & dusted early in the window, fully expect that to be it for us now unless another club come in to take McHugh on loan. Lobey_Dosser
Brilliant news on Anier. Very good business and if he's as determined as Ojamma he'll get himself a right decent move in a year or so. Interesting to see directors offering some financial backing in addition to the Faddy deal. Are we talking Boyle here? Sore one about McHugh to Dundee. Pretty sure he'd have been a makeweight for the return of the keeper.
weeyin
McHugh was a makeweight for Anier's wages, but seems like the Directors stuck hands in pockets again. Also see in the Scotsman that the Murphy to Hibs rumour had some substance. “Jamie Murphy has scored three in four games, the b*stard,” joked Butcher yesterday, ahead of tonight’s Premiership fixture against Aberdeen at Pittodrie. “He will not be joining us. I’ve spoken to Nigel [Clough] and he will not be joining us.
that hat
McCall seems hopeful that the rule preventing "A. Player" joining a team mate on loan at a Tayside club may be reviewed on Monday by the SPFL. Hopefully that will give the generous directors the chance to get their money back. mfc88
Great piece of business by the club. Hope we can get McHugh out on loan though. He really needs it and could have done with it years ago. If not Dundee surely another first division side would be keen?
milo
Great work by the board. I just hope we can afford it! Hopefully a few more fans will try and get along to support the club for the rest of the season.
MainStandPigeon
Good to hear we have some private backing that is allowing us to sign players we wouldn't necessarily be able to otherwise. Leann is right, we should be grateful we have such a close knit club and people willing to put their money where their mouth is for the club's wellbeing, I hope it continues.
