Steve Diggle
That's because to argue with someone you have to contradict what they have said, which you've been unable to do. Correct again you won. Jennings massively overrated. Basically just won the odd tackle and runs about.
MelvinBragg
No one is saying Jennings didn't have qualities but personally I preferred watching the team last season. And frankly that's the priority for me. Motherwell being successful is great but for me what was most satisfying about last season was the fact we did well while playing attractive football. Offer me third playing defensive football or sixth playing as we did last season and I'll happily do without Europe...
Big Stall
Jennings certainly offered us some strength in midfield and he could protect the back four. But once McCall got the players in we needed, then we didn't look back from the start of 2013. I would go as far as to say from the start of 2013 we adopted a we will score more goals than you philosophy and it worked. All out attack, no need for Jenno at the time. Saying that, next season we won't be blessed with the attacking options we have become accustomed to, and keeping goals out might be very important. There could very well be a role for a Jennings type player.

Agreed, people forgot our home form was horrible last year to begin with some absolutely honking performances. Certainly picked up and became excellant but I remember a heep load of apathy about some of our performances to begin with!
steelboy
where jenno would have come in handy would be games like st mirren at home and the first two games at pittodrie. the cup game in particular i think we would see out no problem with jenno on the park. MelvinBragg
there were plenty of duff games last season. possibly more than the 3 seasons preceding. The duff games I remember last season were early in the season as we adapted to a new way of playing. Would we have seen out the 3-3 game at Pitoddrie with Jennings in the team? Possibly. Would we have scored three goals in the first place with two defensive midfielders playing? And games against St Mirren are bad enough to watch without adding another defensive minded player. I'll take the odd duff game and not winning some games we could/should have if, for the most part, I see exciting attacking football. Despite us losing some of our creative players, listening to any McCall interview, thankfully for me he seems to feel a duty to entertain the fans... Special aka
Higdon gone ---- good, he was never gonna repeat last season, especially with his feeders, (Henrik, Humph, Law, and to a certain extent Murphy), all gone. Hateley --- neither up nor down about him leaving. Best of luck to the 2 of them. They can and will be replaced, and we'll move on. Mon the Well. MelvinBragg
So the next thing I'm gathering is that if Steven Jennings was in the team then we played defensive football Not at all, not in McCall's nature. But last season we really seemed to go for it, more so than the previous season. With only really Lasley and our centre backs being defensive minded, second half of the season saw some of the most exciting football I've seen from a Motherwell team. I'd argue that it was even better than McGhee's first six months which is held up as the best recent Motherwell side...

Tweed
The weakness in the team when Jennings and Lasley were both there was that as an attacking outlet we were very one dimensional as we had nothing coming through the middle. Last season we were more multi-dimensional as an attacking force but forewent a toughness to break down. In the season before we lost two games against non-Old Firm teams when both Lasley and Jennings started in the SPL and one of them was against Dundee Utd on the last day when everyone was on the beach. I wouldn't say that team was defensive but they were bloody tough to beat. In the here and now we need two wingers, a striker, a goalie and either a centre half or a right back for the every week plus another couple for numbers and back up. I trust McCall but I am beginning to get nervous about the lack of movement.

I can think of quite a few great attacking performances with the two them in the team: 3 nil against hearts at home twice, gubbing united in the cup quarter final replay, the two wins at tynecastle under brown when we played them off the park and 5 nil at home to st johnstone. We were a better possesion team back then compared to the counter attacking style we saw last season.

MelvinBragg
I don't want it to come across as my criticising Jennings. More my kind of player than Nicky Law (my favourite Motherwell midfielders tend to be guys like Lasley and Valakari). But, and the stats maybe don't back it up, I found last season's team more attractive to watch than the one with Jennings in it. Not to say that there's much in it, both pretty easy on the eye. Anyway, McCall needs to get his finger out and start signing people. If only so we're not here debating merits of centre midfielders that we won't be signing... MelvinBragg
Leeanne dempster on Twitter saying we will see a few signings in next few days with more to follow Normally, this would be a cue for frenzied speculation but most people seem to be convinced that two of the names will be Sutton and Neilson. Am I right in reading this as a few signings in the next few days with more signings to follow? Or is it a few signings with more details on them to follow? Haggischomper
Kerr, Sutton, Neilsen, that winger bloke Lionel something would be four. Then who? Faddy? And another striker, or McManus?
Ian-in-Oz
The general opinion seems to be that Faddy would benefit from a full pre season in his battle to get back to full fitness. Well with the first day of pre season been & gone & he's nowhere to be seen (the club completely unaware of where he even is) then for me we can forget seeing him back as a Motherwell player next year. Ian-in-Oz
What if he turned up on Monday? What if he's been told to rest by a specialis Don't you think the club would know if either of these were true and not just say they have no idea what's happening with him? Anyway you may be right it's just my opinion that his absence tells me he's off assessing other offers & won't be our player next year.
