It is with regret that we announce our planned celebrations of 100 years in Claret and Amber have been declined by Motherwell FC. When we faced Panathinaikos in our Champions League Qualifier last season we witnessed a great sea of colour in the East stand. We have all enjoyed the colour these actions can bring and how inspiring the players find them. Unfortunately, due to some card making its way onto the pitch during the match last year, the club were reprimanded by Uefa. It is for this reason that the club has decided to decline our planned two stand display this coming Thursday as given the potential cost of this tie already, the club are keen to avoid any potential additional costs from a repeat scenario.

We reluctantly accept this decision, however we are increasingly disappointed that we cannot celebrate this landmark as we planned with what is likely to be a busy crowd at Fir Park. The planned action would have been an inspiring sight and may well have spurred on the team but we must now revert to a plan B in the final section. We would like to assure those who supported the T-shirt project to raise funds for this action that their cash will still be put to good use and we will see a return of these actions over the season.

In order to bring as much colour, noise and atmosphere to this match we have decided to prepare a build up march to the stadium to get fans together, signing and build anticipation for kick off. Furthermore, we would like to encourage everyone to bring along as many flags as possible, most especially if you sit near the final section of the east.

Motherwell fans have successfully marched to grounds in the past such as Nancy and Llanelli and it is for that reason that we think a similar action on Thursday is a good idea. The plan is to gradually meet during the day at the Electric bar on Airbles Road, leaving at around 6:30 to the stadium.

We hope that you can join us and that our support on the night will be as noisy, passionate and colorful as always.

Just to clarify aswell, the above post is not a dig at either the club or the fans. We just felt it was necessary to explain the lack of display after the fundraising drive so that people are aware of why it isn't going ahead. The money we have received is still safe and will be put to good use throughout the regular season.

I assume other clubs have been reprimanded as well? Card displays are an increasingly popular way to celebrate events and surely other clubs have had similar issues with UEFA. I reckon they must just absorb the cost of any fines handed out.

Understandable stance by the club, considering any repeat would result in a fine by UEFA, something we can ill afford . Good on you for trying though. I assume the police are fine with the proposed march?

To anyone who threw a card on the pitch...the absence of a display is entirely your fault!!!

It was obvious at the time, that the actions of a few would have future ramifications for the club. I'm not sure how you can prevent it, as people don't think of these things when throwing an A3 card in the direction of an opposition player. Unfortunately the only way to stop it, is not to have one in the first place. Is there not a similar issue with regards to flares?

We will be sticking to the pavements along airbles road no different to fans walking to the ground on any other match day.

Police permission must only be sought for processions along and directly on a road.

Ah right cheers. Fully support it by the way, just not sure of the law

UEFA are killing football.

If its not bad enough the obscene amounts of money being bandied about the Champions League whilst our club makes a loss as a reward for qualifying for THEIR tournament, its crap like this.

I know the club has to follow the rules, but what kind of rules make a game LESS of a spectacle, LESS entertaining and LESS fun?

Its like booking players for celebrating goals.

The whole thing doesn't add up though... Never ending supply of pyrotechnics from Panathinaikos - nowt.

Bit of paper on the park - Uefa all over it.

Much, much worse goes on all over Europe on a match day and you hear nowt about it.

Seem to remember the fuss at the time, with what was a piece of paper\card, but that's the powers that be for you, although I've no doubt they'd argue the item thrown is irrelevant, it's the gesture that won't be tolerated. Either way, the club are probably right in taking the stance, and they'd be best to point out the consequence of anyone doing likewise on Thursday.

As has been said, get as many flags etc in as poss, and why not go for the older fashioned twirling your scarf above your head as the team comes out: much as I can't stand them, I'm always quite impressed when the Jambos do it.

Whatever we do, make a noise along with it yahoo.gif

But then again Andy, was our fine made public by Uefa, SFA, Motherwell or whoever? We gave out the message at the Pana game to show that we were taking action. Maybe the likes of Pana, they club know fine well that they ain't gonna stop 6-10k people using flashbangs, smokes and flares so they simply just put up with it?

Anyway. hopefully the weathers decent for the beer garden to be put to good use. Hopefully see a few of yous there.

Maybe it's because we are close to the pitch. If we had a horrible big running track and the card couldn't reach the pitch would UEFA be more lenient?

To be fair, if it was a couple of rogue scrunched up cards that were lobbed on away from the action then that would have been fine (maybe), but they were launched at opposition players during play - so unfortunately not an unexpected outcome.

Gutted for the boys who have put in a huge shift recently. But the guys responsible left the club with little option

Was it werder bremen that got to the uefa cup final because a scrunched up piece of paper kept the ball in play at the end of the match allowing them to score?

Yea, they knocked out Hamburg in the semi final thanks to the paper ball. A defender tried to pass the ball back to the keeper but the ball bobbled up over the paper ball just as it got to him and it bounced out for a corner which Werder scored from haha.

Absolutely ............ effin UEFA. Understand the Club's stance though, shame tho it is.

Exactly.

For all we know they may have been fined and we just don't hear about. Celtic have been hammered a few times in recent years. Most notable last week.

Their "Fuck UEFA" or was it EUFA banners ?

Club have made the right decision unfortunately, we don't have the money to throw away with a fine and it only takes one idiot to cause it. Shame because 99.99% of the people behave impeccably always. The fan displays as well as looking excellent bring the fans together in a common cause and are so simple and effective. We just need to make a hell of a racket, get right behind the lads and hopefully the Russians get stagefright.

Think the club are probably thinking more about what could happen than what did happen last season.I doubt 1 or 2 bits of paper would attract attention from uefa but say Kuban get a few dodgy decisions, players rolling about faking injury etc.Next time they get a corner/throw at that side they might be getting pelted by bits of paper which would probably be in the uefa observers report.
