Yoshi-1991
We had a healthy looking crowd on Saturday due to the free tickets and yet again I find myself saying we should be doing it every week. But since that doesn't seem to be happening I went onto thinking about then next time it should be done that would have the best effect on the club. Any excitement the kids would have had about football will have long gone before next season rolls around, so my thought was why don't we do the same thing (on an even bigger scale if possible) for ALL the pre season friendlies. I can't see it denting the clubs pockets and it would get the kids looking toward the season ahead. One game isn't enough to get you hooked (or at least not everyone) but if they got into 2 or 3 pre season games for nothing it might start to become a regular thing for the kids to want to go to.

Brazilian
the sentiment is sound,  and I agree that giving all these kids/guardians/etc. a taste of live football, then going into a close season is not very effective, given that in reality they will not sign up for a family season ticket for a season, based on that one game, and only other option is the ludicrous PATG prices  similarly I cant believe Wednesday evening game is full price, any kid that does pester their family, that they want to go along will be faced with telling mum or dad it'll be £28 for the two of them on a school night  but as pre-season home games,, come at quite a cost for the club, and its one of the games that we all have to pay into, it might be too difficult to offer it free, making it a total loss maker....  maybe 2nd place prize-pot would allow club to experiment  I don't know the solution, but whilst last game is definitely popular when we win and step towards a euro prize etc., its not really the best for a follow up incentive to get them back through the turnstiles, Id like to see similar in the early season games where we have two consecutive Saturday home games, first one promotional, with a voucher to follow up with Parent child voucher for tenner?  then realistic gate prices , where basically the kid is free if an adult pays in for max £20 and teenagers are pocket money territory max at £10   EDIT: Ive just remembered that the club having been offering groups regularly throughout season, which is great , but again, £28 to come with their mum or dad any match thereafter, just doesn't work. CoF
I don't know if pre-season friendlies are the games that will get kids hooked as they are often brutal and have no atmosphere. Games like Saturday when there is something huge to play for and we actually win, that's the games we'll get the kids hooked.
Yoshi-1991
It would certainly be interesting to hear the clubs view on it and reasons for doing it the way they do and also as I said on another thread what the take was for the game on Saturday compared to every other week. I would much rather see the south stand full every week with kids that got in for free rather than a basically empty stand with a couple of 00 saint mirren or Ross county fans huddled together. If it was done in the right way I'm pretty sure we could fill that stand every week and make extra on the pie stands and club shop. The school my dad works at has had free tickets in the past but didn't this time round, simply due to not knowing it was available. The club should compile a mailing list for every school, boys brigade, scouts, girl guides, cadets, sports clubs, youth centres, dance groups and bloody nurseries in both north and South Lanarkshire and email them anytime they are going to do one of these deals. Tweed
You have to remember that these schools and organisations have leaders who have their own lives to run as well. I am an officer in a BB company in Hamilton and our Junior Section went to the Motherwell v Ross County game and had a great time. I made the Officer in Charge of that section aware of the game on Saturday but she said it was too close to the last time and too big a commitment on the staff in that section having been there a few weeks ago and having an end of season trip in a couple of weeks taking up another Saturday. Bearing in mind two of the four members of staff in that section don't like football, one is a Hibby (much the same thing) and the other is away every other weekend at a caravan, they did well to take them once. They certainly wouldn't be doing it every other week. Yes, it is an aspirational thing and I have no problem letting kids in for nothing but it isn't as simple as just opening up the gates. gaz7
Great post and I couldnt agree more but they do need to make it 2/3 in a row.the marketing and sale of food was horrendous and whoever was in charge of sales should get a bollocking.we had maybe 3000 in that stand and my wife went for pies juice etc 5 mins before half time and came back at 425.modern technology etc get staff up and down aisles taking orders then bring them to fans in their seats this would sell out and not piss people off which means in other games they dont go back to pie stall. makaveli
Am I only person that clicked this to see if it was free tickets?
Kmcalpin
There must have been a few hundred free tickets given out last night to schools/clubs as the southern end of the POD was full where it normally be empty.
