Goggles & Flippers
Interesting to know if Mikey was pushed or has walked. http://www.motherwellfc.co.uk/2015/03/18/vacancy-head-groundsman/
daver
I know the pitch is an awful lot better than it used to be but we've spent a lot of money for it to be in the condition it is. We've not had a severe winter and all the drainage was supposed to be sorted out and everything is to the highest specification. I'm guessing he was pushed. wee_alpha
I am guessing he walked ......... into a better paid job.
daver
I don't know t going rate for a head groundsman but, having now seen the salary being offered, I think you may well be right.
superward
I had the same thought daver and also know nothing about the going rate for a head groundsman. Just out of interest, a quick wee google shows that Man City in May last year were offering a Deputy Groundsman role paying £26k-£30k (https://www.pitchcare.com/jobfinder/offered/16938). So, given the size of club we are £26k may seem about right. Dunno, but I am sure the club know the salary they need to pay to get the right person and level of experience. Mitch
£26k for someone in a specialised role. Not sure what the going rate is for that type of job but seems pretty poor to me! Pitch has been better in recent seasons but aint seen much of it recently out with the highlights of the Killie match where it was poor at best. Frazzie
Surely it's not a full time position so £26k a year seems about right.
numpty
Surely it's not a full time position so £26k a year seems about right. This interview with the Crystal Palace groundsman suggests otherwise... and also that (in 2011) a groundsman could expect to earn £15-£42k, so £26k is at the low end, but not off the scale. roly
Given the money we sunk into the pitch in the last few years we'd probably be as well switching to plastic.
Ya Bezzer!
I know the pitch is an awful lot better than it used to be but we've spent a lot of money for it to be in the condition it is. We've not had a severe winter and all the drainage was supposed to be sorted out and everything is to the highest specification. I'm guessing he was pushed. We've maybe not had a severe winter but I bet the number of days with lying snow was a lot more than average. At the end of the day we are sitting at 55 degrees N lattitude, it's hardly been out of single digit temperatures for months, there is hardly any sunlight and on top of that we have one of the highest grounds in the country. Grass just doesn't grow in those conditions. The miracle is that there is any grass on the pitch at all and if you go back and look at your old videos you'll see how much better the pitch is now than it would have been in years gone by. There were a few ropy patches on the pitch but really it's mid March - what do you expect? I'm also of the opinion that professional footballers should be able to perform in a range of conditions and not just on perfect pitches, so I don't really have a problem with the pitch, as long as the surface is relatively level (albeit with a slant!)
Haggischomper
Summer fitba
weeyin
Summer fitba We'd have been playing the last few weeks even with summer football. Just thst the groundsmans would have needed to prepare a playing surface during the winter. Good luck growing grass in mid January.
Goggles & Flippers
But playing during a summer and the rapid regeneration it offers means the pitch reaches the end of the season in November and is better nick to see out the next few months. Even more so if there aren't any games and undersoil heating over the worst of our weather.
Busta Nut
How specialized is the role? I think I may see if I can get it. I fancy a ride on the tractor!
