ohwulliewullie
I know hes already gone but, Carswell to St. Mirren, hope it works out for him. Very good move! Shall we start the countdown before he signs for us again?
Lobey_Dosser
Slightly surprised Carswell has managed to get a club of such stature. Hopefully the fresh start serves him well.

superward
Best of luck to Carsy. I did like him for what he did well (energy, covering, tackles) but he never really kicked on this season to become a more complete player nor improved any and Bara must not have fancied him much. I did think we may give him another year to be honest. He will do St Mirren a job but not too fussed if we ever faced him. Much like I felt with McLean and Saunders. StAndrew7
In all honesty, if Carswell had played in the 2nd half of the season every week like he had up until Christmas I reckon we'd have been down automatically instead of the playoff; the difference in class between him and Pearson was there for all to see and is one of the reasons I think we stayed up. If we'd had a better season this year (i.e. not almost going down) I reckon he'd have gotten another year/developed more in the latter half of this season into a solid SPFL midfielder as he'd have gotten some more playing time. Issue was, we simply didn't perform when he was in the team on a consistent enough basis; Bara got rid as part of the cull, which is fair enough based on team performances without him. Good luck to him.
Yassin
Very surprised Carswell's got a Championship team, thought he would end up at Airdrie or someone of that ilk.
dinnae-punt-it
The lad Louis Moult looks like a decent goalscorer, also likes a free kick. See about 3 mins in:

Every team needs a non scoring, slow, ball chasing , square passing midfielder I guess.......but seriously , good luck to him.....he will probably and score against us in the cup or something..... a la like andy roddie
dinnae-punt-it
Not sad to lose Carswell. Simply not good enough at this level. Would need a 3 man midfield to stand a chance of coping with the pace of the game in the big boys league.

Had all the attributes to have been the holding midfielder, pace isn't a necessity by the way... instead of employing 2 box to box centres like we have done, think Carswell could have been the perfect foil to sit in the hole and protect the defence. dinnae-punt-it
Sigh.....You know more about football than me blah blah blah. I gave my opinion without berating anyone else's, maybe you should give it a go. You are more than entitled to your own opinion, but for me, if he was good enough he would still be at Motherwell...simples.
Andy_P
It sounds absolutely crazy to say it given he's only 21 but for me time has caught up with Carswell a little. He was clearly a favourite of Stuart McCall's given the extremely early introduction, by McCall's standards at least, to the first team and subsequent lengthy contract. It appeared McCall at one stage had him ear-marked as Lasley's eventual successor in the middle of the park but it became apparent he was never going to be able to exert the same influence that Lasley could. There's a lot to be said for a squad player who can come in and do a sound job, very rarely catching the eye but equally rarely having a nightmare, but sooner or later others players are going emerge on the scene who are ready or have the potential to better what's there. And I think with both Jack Leitch and Chris Cadden that's what's happened with Carswell. He's had three or four years around the first team but hasn't really developed much further than the levels he reached about a year/eighteen months ago. The gamble Baraclough has made is that Leitch and Cadden, albeit both younger, can better what Carsy can offer currently offer. I wish him well at St Mirren.

Wind yer neck in... hardly berating & for the record nobody mentioned knowing more about football. Agree if he was good enough he would still be at Motherwell. You stated a need for a 3 man midfield, wasnt quite getting that & offered a differing opinion. Simples. And I'm well aware there is a difference between pace and pace of the game, hence, his engine was good enough to motor in the holding role no? 'Play football much' implies that you play more than me, but not going to argue. With Carswell's awareness and positional sense I think he would need a 3 man midfield to be effective for Motherwell. You are entitled to disagree. At least we both agree he wasn't good enough, which is the important part.

Tom Hateley was a good example, looked ok in a 3 man midfield, but lost in a 2. Funnily enough, Carswell might have been better suited to being an old fashioned right back. dosser1886
I was done with him after the Thistle game, only had one aim at that game when he came on as a sub and that was to get himself sent off.

weeyin
Marvin signed extension till 2018, great news That is a cracking piece of business from the club. Tie him down, get another season or two from him and sell him on.
Inthebasement
I was done with him after the Thistle game, only had one aim at that game when he came on as a sub and that was to get himself sent off. That was a weird and hopeless contribution from Carswell, still not a clue what was going on in his head? Really wish him well but don't rate him. McCall wanted a cut price recreation of the Jennings/Lasley partnership. I personally didn't see anything like the ball winning, passing or cool head required to nail down such a specialist role, and at the same time he offers absolutely nothing going forward. The chair pull-away however was the highlight of two years MFCTV subscription and immortalises his contribution to the club.
