linsey12
Mandy Burns is a superb player and similar to a few of girls in the current side she has played at a very high level throughout her footballing career. Her distribution of the ball is second to none and she is also a great finisher to boot. They are too good for the league they are currently in, however, last nights cup final opponents Rangers ran them close in the first half. We are an ageing side though and it will be interesting to see how they cope when these experienced older players decide to hang up their boots. underboyleheating
Clearly aiming to climb into a better league quickly but there has to be some development going on to have a strong team when they get there. That is my concern Linsey, I am not sure if we are developing younger players who can sustain the instant success that they are currently experiencing. Older experienced players like Mandy can’t play forever and if they are not preparing for the future it will come back and bite them in the arse. Exactly - I know a number of the current players and they've gelled because they already know each other well. This has brought immediate results but I'm actually quite disappointed that's the route the club have gone down. It detracts a bit from the community club approach to it. I would love to see the women's game flourish but it's not realistic to think that can happen at the moment and it's not (as I see it; perhaps I'm wrong) going to bring in much in the way of commercial gain. Nice to see silverware etc but a big part of me would actually have liked to see us continue to build on the original (unpaid) group of girls through coaching and development, drawing in the more talented players over time because of the set-up. Unfortunately, it's definitely a case of friends recruiting friends - talented players, yes, but not really what I'd hoped for. We digress but glad to have that off my chest!! Kmcalpin
As with any team, you have to have a mix of youth and experience. Hopefully, the ladies team will produce its own talent in time. Certainly the men's side went through a fairly barren spell between Paul Quinn/David Clarkson and Lee Erwin.
wee_alpha
Having just read the post by Charlie Bennett, it looks like they have an extremely good structure for bring through the younger players. so hopeful there will be a good number of younger players being integrated into the team as time goes on.
