Razz1074
Good start and another 90 mins of the team playing together. Sounds as if we could have made it easier for ourselves if skippy had converted the pen but how many times in the past has that then lead to us losing so all in all very happy. Electric Blues
37 more wins and we win the league Mathematically, 35 should be enough.
Electric Blues
You can only read so much into the BBC stats but it looks as if we were the pressing team right up until the end, which is good. I always get the total fear when we try to see out a game. Looking forward to the feedback from those who actually made it up the high road. grumpy
Mathematically, 35 should be enough. Aye but if we're going to win the league we should try and do it in style
GazzyB
Just home. Really effective performance and a deserved three points. Got the early goal and Marv went on a brilliant solo run and we got the pen (was never a pen I thought, ref was really poor throughout). We continued to dominate the first half and Marv & Fletch wasted good chances. There was a particular instance where Caley's number 5 (who should've been sent off after about 30 seconds for a horrid tackle on Skippy) was off getting treatment and Caley were under pressure and knocked the ball out of play next to their own corner flag so they could make the sub. The guy was already off the park so when the ref blew his whistle to restart Law threw it to Marv who was 1 on 1 and put it wide, after which a bit of argy bargy ensued coz ICT expected us to give it back to them. Second half started and we struggled to get forward as much. Caley must've had 60% possession easily but given how poor they were going forward and how absolutely superb we were off the ball they didn't test the keeper once. Was a wee bit nervy towards the end but well deserved three points. In terms of individual performances, Fletcher looked a real handful. Skippy played very deep so he was basically a lone striker, and he did the job really well. Laing absolutely strolled through the game, great signing, and Lasley was sensational. Just kept winning the ball back over and over and over again. Definitely life in the guy yet. New keeper looked really confident and you could hear him bellowing for the ball at the other end of the park. He had a few horrendous slices out the park but think we've won a watch here. Really bad day at the office for McDonald, just never seemed to get going. Also props to our fans for the tournout, must've been 400+ easily!
capt_oats
Welcome 3 points & clean sheet. Going by the radio coverage it seems ICT were still in the same form as their European games: possession but unable to do anything with it and never really looking like the could create chances. Defence clearly needs to take credit for stopping them creating as well. Either way, very positive start and by all accounts it sounds like it could (should) have been a more comfortable shoreline. Shaka
Defence and Keeper were solid, partly down to them marshalling play effectively and partly as Caley were very toothless. Fletcher was a handful and Marvin was dynamite when he got the ball with space in front. McDonald was poor ,played far too deep. Chalmers was solid for being out of position Still, great start and exciting to think how we may play with Ainsworth & Marvin together
Well-Made
Jeez. They don't have any u20s that can slot in? If I remember rightly there was a report going about on the young Scottish players being brought through the ranks and ICT were slammed for not doing it. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/33279795 story here, lack of youth may come back to bite this season if their injuries are that bad..... Could see them do a "Motherwell" this season if they don't have the cover. Edited August 1, 2015 by Well-Made Found the story.

delboy
Good start to the season and the main thing is the 3 points from what I heard on the radio we played well and the team seemed link up well onwards and upwards

real dosser
Wee bet on the lads to win at 4/1 and then another at half time that we would keep a clean sheet at 8/13. Good days work. Mon the Dossers
StAndrew7
McDonald look a few more games away from his best today. Was never a penalty, so probably fair Skippy missed it. Fletcher looks brilliant. Had a few chances and probably should have had at least another. Few more games and I think he'll be banging them in. Moult was a handful in a different way (pace with some tricky footwork) and could have scored one were it not for a great save from their keeper. Delighted with the result but a bit disappointed we didn't get a few more. We moved them about well when we had the ball and counter attacked brilliantly, a very astute away performance. Pearson's injury changed how we went forward but the good thing is we created chances in other ways without him through the middle.
Wellarmy
Delighted! Had a feeling they'd do it. Great start!!!!!
walking down the Fir Park
Just in from game, right good game and played well One thing to add - we were right to try score from the strangest throw in given to us and expect it back Merv should have scored! Another thing to add - disappointed the young lads buss never made it! They were sadly missed today but we tried without them!
Orinoco
That was as comfortable 1 nil you will ever see. Had we been more clinical it could have been 4 zip easy. Pearson was stupid with his lounge which injured him and his opponent. Could have cost us as leitch does not offer the same energy as pearson does. Mcdonald tried but more often than not fluffed things. Lack of pre season. We need a high energy center midfield player pronto if pearson is out for a while. Goalie was confident and dominate. Law needs to learn about not giving ball away cheaply.
The African
Good start, though tempered with the memory that we did beat St Mirren on the opening day of last season. This does seem different though. Sounds like a deserved win and a decent performance against a supposedly better side, and away from home. Early days, but lots of positives. Hope Pearson is not out for any length of time as our squad is still small, and time to find someone to replace Sutton as our penalty taker. We cannot afford to pass up goals from the spot. DC'd
and time to find someone to replace Sutton as our penalty taker. We cannot afford to pass up goals from the spot. Griffiths missed a pen vs Stjarnan and there was some debate whether Ciftci should have hit it or not. Fast forward to today. Celtic are awarded another penalty and Griffiths subsequently coverts (albeit fortuitously). One penalty miss doesn't mean you should be stripped of the role. Ronaldo, Messi, Balotelli have all missed penalties - doesn't stop them stepping up again. McDonald should remain as penalty taker for the timebeing. milo
I thought Pearson's challenge was reckless and unnecessary and I really hope he's not injured himself in the process as prior to that I thought he was fantastic.

That was most certainly not how it was put across on Radio Scotland. I suppose the fact it was Barry Wilson who was the reporter tells you everything you need to know but the whole thing was put across as Motherwell being unsportsmanlike. Ya Bezzer!
How did we line up today? Where did Chalmers play? Was Law at right back or further forward? I'd assume Chalmers at right back, Law in place of Ainsworth but I wasn't there.
fizoxy
I believe charmers was left mid, Marv right mid, and law at right back.
Dunky2k
Chalmers played Left Mid and Law was at right back, great team performance and ICT never looked like scoring, as someone else posted, easiest 1-0 win we'll get but realyy should have been more, Fletcher is going to cause some serious problems for defences if he turns in performances like that each week.
