Kmcalpin
A poor article. Does anyone have statistics on the number of fans arrested / found guilty / given banning orders broken down by individual club? That might prove interesting. steelboy
Speirs seems to have forgotten that the nonsense he spouted to the justice committee at the parliament was one of the reasons the Bill was enacted.
mjw
If the SFA or SFL (as it was) had done something to tackle those two we wouldn't be in this position now. Sectarianism was good for business, that's why Rangers fans got to sing about being 'up to their knees in f****n blood' even after a Celtic fan had his throat slit for wearing the wrong scarf in the wrong place. UEFA for all their faults were/are the only organisation to stand up to these two.

Here's a report into it for the season before last. Kmcalpin
Just as I thought - the proportion of culprits from Rangers and Celtic are a lot less than you might expect given the relative size of their crowds. As a few observers said on here a year or two back the Police will home in on easy targets. Its a lot easier and safer to collar 10 fans from a crowd of 500 than it is to collar say 200 from a crowd of 5,000. Police / crime statistics are notoriously unreliable. We come third in the list of affiliated clubs behind Celtic and Rangers.. http://www.gov.scot/Resource/0045/00452585.pdf Rangers 85 (32%), Celtic 68 (25%)). Motherwell was the third most common affiliation in 19 of the charges (9%). Those stats surprised me, as due to their bigger fan base I was expecting Hearts, Aberdeen or Hibernian to be next on the list. Not the sort of league table you want to be at the top of. mjw
So all this police/SNP state nonsense is over 19 people getting lifted over the course of a season?
underboyleheating
So all this police/SNP state nonsense is over 19 people getting lifted over the course of a season? Not a lot of people, however, it is still worrying that a small fan base like us are ahead of Hearts or Aberdeen. Just imagine if we had a bigger support, we would be challenging Rangers for the bad boys title.
superward
Maybe it is because we had more wanks in our support than Hearts/Aberdeen that season? Or one specific incident that boosted the numbers that year? EDIT: In fact it would seem the latter perhaps....."The increase in charges in North Lanarkshire between 2012-13 and 2013-14 was largely because of two fixtures where there were numerous charges (Motherwell versus Celtic on 6 December 2013, when there were 24 charges;"

That kind of indicates the problem, it's about numbers, easy targets and giving the impression action is being taken. 19 arrests is quite a lot, it means if you go to a Motherwell game at home you've got a 1/200 chance of getting lifted, away from home it's as low as 1/10. superward
Aye - I could vaguely remember something happening and trouble outside the ground being reported or something. Kmcalpin
Not the sort of league table you want to be at the top of. Agreed, but this legislation and especially its selective enforcement renders the statistics totally unreliable and virtually meaningless. Electric Blues
Hearts young team made a burst for the top last week by generally acting like wee cunts. It's a competition now? Challenge accepted! It's all lies, damned lies, and over-analysis of limited statistics anyway. This one is my favourite: "Of the 12 charges at Firhill in 2013-14, seven were during a Rangers versus Celtic under-17 game rather than in a game that involved the home team". FFS. I also don't think they understand what the bois are trying to do (I mean atmosphere wise), the comparison to hardcore Serbian outfits is the laughable thing.
