David
Just over 1,000. Airdrie brought 277. Just over 1,000? That's not bad at all, considering our senior side gets less than 4,000 for SPFL matches!
CrosshillWell
I work weekends so a season ticket isn't an option. I really considered going to the game, but had commitments that evening, but see what happens when you reduce admission prices to a reasonable level? Quite a bit to do with facing Airdrie as well methinks.
Lobey_Dosser
Towards the end of today's press conference, McGhee mentioned that he had a 15 year old who would be flirting with the first team if he was allowed to do so. Possibly a throwaway comment given the nature of the question but who's he talking about?

Possibly a throwaway comment given the nature of the question but who's he talking about? Either Jamie Semple, coveted by EPL sides and beyond or James Scott (came off the bench in both Challenge Cup games) IMO. Bit about Semple here: http://www.heraldscotland.com/sport/14623203.The_14_year_old_Motherwell_striker_lined_up_by_some_of_England__39_s_best_clubs_heads_to_Sunderland_on_trial/ he's been over at Benfica as well from the looks of things. steelboy
With Celtic u20s getting hammered 5-1 by Livi yesterday hopefully the idea of Old Firm b teams in the lower leagues is dead and buried.

It would be good if you were right, but I rather suspect that the actual results of the Old Firm sides are largely immaterial.

That right there is everything thats wrong with football! How can we ever produce our own talent to decent profit when fucking 14 year olds are hoovered up by premiership clubs? Depressing. A sign of the times I'm afraid with the globalisation of football and kids and their parents wanting to run before they can walk. Very few youngsters like this ever make at the top level - the statistics are frightening.

I may have mentioned it on this thread (or somewhere else on the forum) but Michael Calvin's book The Nowhere Men is a good read on the academy system, youth development, scouting and the like.
fergi4
With Celtic u20s getting hammered 5-1 by Livi yesterday hopefully the idea of Old Firm b teams in the lower leagues is dead and buried. Seen a video of Livie player Danny Mullen diving yo wi a penalty...got to be one of the best I've seen! On his twitter - see @Dannymullen13 Same fella is free-scoring just now, not seen much lower league and wouldn't know if he is any use, but surely the rate of return is worth keeping tabs on. ONeils40yarder
We dont seem to be interested in taking a chance on players from our own lower leagues
Haggischomper
McGhee got his fingers burnt with one guy who came from junior, I think. Had a few clubs after leaving us but can't recall his name. Stevie Nicholas came from the lower leagues too but never fulfilled his potential
Haggischomper
Oh, and there was a full back we got from Dumbarton too. Was supposed to be the next big thing but not 100% convinced he had his head screwed on right
ONeils40yarder
Derek Adams the last one from the lower league that 'did a job'? Not sure what that job was half the time, but he certainly had longevity if nothing else

I'm sure Grehan wasn't even "lower league", I'm sure he was playing junior football? I think Nicky Devlin had a bad injury that really halted his progress...but I might have made that up. weeyin
The biggest problem in recent times was our policy to never pay transfer fees. Most of the good players from lower leagues were being sold rather than freed.

maxywell
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/37289352 Why do they always seem to use us as an example, Killie, Partick, Hamilton etc are in a worse position. Oh and apparently we get 18 000 against Celtic.

wellowell
Think he needs to take out the 1 at the beginning as 8000 nearer the mark just typical ex old firm players get jobs for the boys as not got a bloody clue so much so I now watch BT with sound down as Chris Sutton s voice is like chalk on a blackboard to me can't stand the man
daver
I don't have BT Sport so don't get to hear him but there was an interesting interview with him in yesterday's Herald. While he came across arsey in some parts he did show some humility and I also think he has a bit of a smart arse sense of humour which doesn't always come off. I think Mcghee took a punt on Grehan as was prolific for Dundee Bluebell? To be fair he's went on to play at a decent level with Stranraer and the likes.
