Dezz
Louis Laing sticking the boot in I see - he does have a point about the results to be fair to him. Caley Thistle defender Louis Laing insists Premiership bottom side Inverness can catch his former club Motherwell. "I don't really want to speak about Motherwell but their past results have been pretty diabolical," he says.
gdalli10
I was just about to post that. He says Inverness has a better squad than we do.

Lobey_Dosser
Laing quite right to get tore into Motherwell. While they were far from perfect, Laing, Kennedy and Ainsworth all appear to have been treated unfairly by McGhee.

While they were far from perfect, Laing, Kennedy and Ainsworth all appear to have been treated unfairly by McGhee. Can't say I disagree. Laing had some poor games for us, but he also had some very good games. Kennedy likewise. Despite what others have said about Heneghan, I don't think he's a massive upgrade on either. Jules certainly isn't. Ainsworth has his flaws but anyone who has the number of goals and assists he has for us, any manager should be trying to find a way to use him effectively. His unwillingness to do his defensive duties is brought up often. If by leaving him out, we had made ourselves defensively solid, then leaving him out would be reasonable. When we humped Ross County a few months back, McGhoo played his best winger (Ainsworth) on the wing and dropped Bowman to play his two best strikers up front. That's hardly rocket science. No one could ever convince me that Motherwell haven't at some point in their history, accommodated a talented winger who couldn't defend. A lot goes on behind the scenes that fans know nothing about and clubs often protect players from the public gaze.

capt_oats
Reading Laing's comments I'm not really sure that he's said anything that's particularly controversial. Our recent results have been "diabolical"? No shit Sherlock. ICT have a better quality squad? It'd be quite a novel approach for him to go public saying his new teammates are actually worse than the team from which he'd recently been released. He'd like to finish above Motherwell? Well...duh! Well-Made
Think the only bit that sticks in my craw about the interview is that he hopes on a" personal note "to finish above Motherwell...... Well I hope on a personal note that Mouly and Skippy rip him and his defensive partners apart so we can stay above them Give it 5 years when another manager looks to re-sign him and this'll be brought up ala Pearson.... Lobey_Dosser
How do we know Lobey? I'm not saying that you're wrong though. A lot goes on behind the scenes that fans know nothing about and clubs often protect players from the public gaze. I've no idea what goes on behind the scenes but you can read a lot into various team selections and press conferences. After the 3-0 debacle in Dingwall (mind when 3-0 used to feel like a doing), both Laing and Kennedy came in for heavy criticism and both rarely featured thereafter. Hall was drafted into the team and done incredibly well but on more than one occasion, McGhee's praise for Hall tended to incorporate a dig at Kennedy and Laing. Laing's mental strength was publically questioned by McGhee iirc which led to quite a heavy press conference from Laing before he scored the winner at NDP. Ainsworth's career under McGhee has effectively been over since he was publicly scapegoated at Firhill. We all know Ainsworth isn't particularly consistent but McCall and Baraclough in particular got much more out of him. Laing and Ainsworth are probably two of our most decent earners. With one eye on the budget, I think McGhee quickly decided that they two weren't his cup of tea and the wages could be used better, which he is entitled to do. Unfortunately we couldn't get them off the wage bill and we've ended up with overusing a right winger that has scored 1 league goal all season and been left with a number of defenders that are not as good as Laing or Kennedy.
Joeboy
Kennedy got a bad virus in the summer and was out for a good few weeks and lost a lot of weight. He came back and played once with the 20s and has since had a really bad hip problem, which I believe he's seen several specialists who haven't got to the bottom of it as yet. The lack of clarity about it from the club is probably what is causing people to thing there's more to it than that, but both of those one on top of the other seem too elaborate to be false. You realise he almost certainly didn't say that. How it normally goes is: Journo: "On a personal note, would you like to finish above Motherwell?" Laing: "Yes"

How it normally goes is: Journo: "On a personal note, would you like to finish above Motherwell?" Laing: "Yes" That's it. If you watch our MFCTV press conferences before a game, the stories you read on the paper compared to the actual words said by the players are often born from such loaded questions. The only thing you may have said is disrespectful would have been the "diabolical" word (however true it may be) I can't see a journo being able to use license to say that. As for saying they're a better squad, had Diego Costa gone to China in January he would even probably have said he joined a better squad in a face-saving exercise. It's just a bog standard question with a bog standard answer.
