Mcmanus - You Don't Know What You Have Got Till It's Gone

Only one reply to original post mentions our signed natural left centre half, Maguire. Surprised, can only assume most haven't seen him playing.

Personally think Jules will play but not convinced he is any better than Maguire.

If Maguire is listed as playing tonight for u20's discussion as far as tomorrow's game is immaterial.

U20s is Monday?

Oops sorry, thought u20s was tonight.

If Maguire ends up overrated, a few knowledgeable people inside club will have been proved wrong.

Time will tell, myself I hope they are proved right.

If it comes to developing Lucas or Maguire, I'd rather it was Maguire because he is a Motherwell player not a Reading one.

Maguire has plenty time. Jules is a Scotland U21, looks promising and deserves a chance given his last performance.

8 out of 26 matches we have lost 3 goals or more.

15 out of 26 matches we have lost 2 goals.

Our best two players by a mile are the front two. Everyone else needs to take a long, hard look at themselves.

We're probably the worst passers in the league. I'm saying there is a connection between losing possession and losing goals.

I doubt I'm the only one who thinks the loss of McManus hasn't been a huge blow and has caused us to be in such poor form since his injury. I know he has had his critics and we weren't great defensively when he was fit, but he organised Heneghan who looks lost without McManus

I honestly believe that if we had kept McManus and Tait fit, we would be sitting comfortably away from danger.

you think we had better form , before McManus was injured?

the double injury blow has hampered us, but you seem to be implying McManus had us playing in some way better....

Hard to tell as the timing of Mcmanus and Tait getting injured is round about when Robinson took over.

A quick glance at results and it looks like our goals conceded per game has probably improved with Robinson in and Tait and Mcmanus out.

I'm sure folk will read into that in different ways but I think it's pretty clear that despite some daft mistakes over the weeks, Robinson has managed to get us more organised than we were. I can only agree with Jacol that we would be in a much better league position if Tait and Mcmanus were part of that.

Sorry, but you sound like Mark McGhee!

For me he has never lived up to his previous reputation and the goal against stats with him in the team don't lie. Watch some of the goals lost over the past few seasons and keep an eye on Mick...poor communication, gives up too easily, slow.

He is an adequate defender in this league, but I think ur nuts if you are trying to argue he is a rock in defence.

Retitle a topic about Marvin, then you have a convincing argument for a player that really could have had an impact on our season!

By and large, McManus was fairly steady for us during McGhee's time.

While he hasn't always met expectations, he's a significant loss at the crunch end of the season. Due to the imbalance of our squad, his injury has been a double blow as we've had to put our best midfielder in defence.

He hasn't lived up to his reputation but he has been a very significant loss to us especially in terms of his experience. Ben Heneghan has certainly missed his presence. Its also menat we have had to remove McHugh from central midfield.

We played half a season without McHugh in midfield.

McHugh might be more effective than McManus in defence anyways.

We have had experience in Lasley, Hammell, Pearson, McDonald and Samson.

I'll stick to my point, McManus is adequate and doubt he would have changed much in the last 8 games.

This the guy who was playing when we lost 7 in Aberdeen? Absence may make the heart grow fonder after all. The only thing that rose tints this player is the other abysmal centre halfs we have signed as a club. Our defensive stats are awful with him in the side and have been since we signed him.
