Tweed
Thought it would be interesting to see how we'd done point for point with the two of them. Clearly Robinson has a higher percentage of points but he has seen less of the top six teams so all in probably not much between the two of them. Aberdeen – McGhee 0/6; Robinson 0/3 Celtic – McGhee 0/9; Robinson n/a Dundee – McGhee 1/9; Robinson 0/3 Hamilton Accies – McGhee 4/6; Robinson 4/6 Hearts – McGhee 0/9; Robinson n/a Inverness CT – McGhee 3/6; Robinson 3/6 Kilmarnock – McGhee 4/6; Robinson 6/6 Partick Thistle – McGhee 4/6; Robinson 0/3 Rangers – McGhee 0/6; Robinson 1/3 Ross County – McGhee 7/9; Robinson 0/3 St Johnstone – McGhee 1/6; Robinson 0/3 Total – McGhee 24/78 (31%); Robinson 14/36 (39%)
stv
McGhee left us in the shit. Robinson got us out the shit, with a poor McGhee team that was anchored to the bottom of the leauge. No contest.

twistandshout1983
Believe Robinson will lead us forward and is the right man for the job at this moment in time. Big changes are required after this season and sure we will see a big clearout this summer.
capt_oats
This season: McGhee: P: 26 W: 6 D: 6 L: 14 F: 30 A: 53 GD: -23 (Points = 24 PPG = 0.92) Robinson: P: 12 W: 4 D: 2: L: 6 F: 16 A: 16 GD: 0 (Points = 14 PPG = 1.16) Edited to add: as a side-note all 6 of Robinson's losses have been by a single goal. Kmcalpin
Interesting but a difficult comparison to make. Robinson has not had the opportunity to bring in his own players McGhee did, and also the mix of home & away games was not the same.
Haggischomper
Still raging we only managed one point vs that Rangers team. Shocking.
capt_oats
Interesting but a difficult comparison to make. Robinson has not had the opportunity to bring in his own players McGhee did, and also the mix of home & away games was not the same. Well, quite. However it's worth looking at the For and Against columns, whilst acknowledging we're looking at a smaller sample for Robinson. With McGhee fielding (for the most part) his first choice goalkeeper and back 4 we were conceding on average just over 2 goals a game (2.03) and scoring an average of 1.15. Even taking out the 7 conceded against Aberdeen and 5 against Dundee and putting them down as freak results it's still an average of 1.7 GA per game. Robinson was parachuted in and ended up having to field a cobbled together defence that included arguably our best midfielder and a left back held together with sellotape as part of a back 3. The average goals against dropped to 1.33 PG and there's a marginal increase in goals for, again 1.33. When he got the job Robinson was saying he had to get us to stop leaking goals, he's (for the most part) managed to do that. Obviously there were cheap goals lost; Samson falling to bits against Dundee, Jules' inexplicable decision against Ross County but it's worth noting that Robinson actually dealt with that; Samson was dropped and Jules hasn't got on the park since.
underboyleheating
McGhee was shit at targeting/recruiting players. Robinson will need to be better than this if we have any hope of avoiding a bottom six scrap next season. There is also no place for sentiment at this club and a few of the older players and the younger ones who don’t look as if they can make the grade will need to be moved on to Partick Thistle. Mintymac
Some of the guys signed and eventually playing in a motherwell shirt was shocking and simply not good enough . Not sure McGhee involvement as heard he didn't watch them pre signing but was recommended them . That for me has got to change . Judging Robinson is difficult as he inherited a mix of some poor and burnt out ones . Only once the new season starts and recruitment is done will we be able to compare the two . capt_oats
Well, you can compare the two directly as they were both working with the same group of players. In fact, Robinson had fewer available to him. Whether Robinson is the right man for the job mid-long term is a different question as is whether or not the tactics he employed to keep us safe are a genuine reflection of how he wants his team's to play or whether they were simply a means to an end dictated by circumstance.
