Queen of the South please, never been

Last time I was there was when we were in the First Division. I seem to recall a 5 - 2 victory. Of course, that was when QoS played on real grass.

I see they have released the info re Teams and who is 1st seed and 2nd seeds etc

The second seeds are St Mirren, Livi, Morton and QOS in the South grouping

Would probably rather avoid the 2 coming up to the Top flight for now at least.

Of the other 3 teams would like Airdrie and Spartans and one other...

if cup is the same as last year we won't get away days to Dumfries, Stranraer and Edinburgh City. We will get 2 home games and 2 away in the group stage. At the end of the draw they said the fixtures; TV games etc will be announced next week.

I quite like the format of the League Cup, but the regionalised nature of it means it has the potential for throwing up the same combinations of teams quite often.  That's Stranraer and Edinburgh City twice in three years now.   Still on the whole the competition has provided us with some new opposition to face and the chances to reacquaint ourselves with teams we haven't faced for long and weary.

I don't know whether it was coincidental it happened to us but if the last two years are anything to go by as the top seeds we should expect to face the next most difficult opponent (Queen of the South) at home, as happened with both Rangers and Morton. Otherwise really what's the point of having a seeding system if you don't give the higher seeded team an advantage.

If that's the case obviously you're looking at two from three of Edinburgh City, Clyde and Stranraer for your away days.

Clyde game will be on BT Sport.  A wee bit of cash into our kitty.  An odd choice though.

I think the TV money is pooled for this competition and paid out as prize money.

I think Dave has it right this time, only clubs involved in TV games get payment. unless theyve changed the deal this season

SPFL announces record prize money for 2017/18 Betfred Cup

THE winners of this season's Betfred Cup will receive a record £250,000, the SPFL announced on Monday.

A total of £1.6m will be paid out in prize money for the 2017/18 tournament, in addition to £500,000 worth of television payments.

The total pot to be divided among competing clubs comes to just over £2m, a 15 per cent increase from the £1.8m dished out to Scottish teams last season.

“Thanks to the support of all clubs, the Betfred Cup has been transformed into a truly exciting and innovative competition," said SPFL chief executive Neil Doncaster.

"We’re thrilled that it has been further boosted by this significant increase in prize and television money, firmly cementing the Betfred Cup as a key competition in Scottish football.”

The group stage begins on Friday 14 July when Ayr United meet Kilmarnock at Somerset Park.

At the conclusion of the group stage, fifth-placed teams will receive £17,000, fourth-place teams will receive £19,000 and teams finishing third will take home £21,000.

The four worst runners-up, who fail to reach the knockout round, will exit with £25,000 while those knocked out in the last 16 earn £35,000.

A quarter-final exit will earn clubs £60,000, losing semi-finalists will get £80,000 and the runner-up takes home £115,000.

In addition, each of the 12 clubs involved in a televised group stage match will earn £12,500, finalists will receive £32,000 in TV payments and the remaining six broadcasted games will earn clubs £21,500.
