steelman1991
Lamie has always impressed me any time I've seen him. Strong, quick and dangerous at set-pieces. Reckon he would be a good addition.

Ped_MFC
Maybe we should teach one of our short-arsed forwards to take a long throw (no pun intended) to allow the big guys to get in the box. On Tuesday we had Gallagher throwing the ball into the box with no-one able to challenge for it when it got there.

By Scott Burns 09:32, 26 FEB 2020 Motherwell want to land Ricki Lamie from Livingston . The Steelmen are looking to do a deal to sign the defender who is out of contract in the summer. Well boss Stephen Robinson took Declan Gallagher from Livi last season and now wants to team him up with Lamie. There is also interest from England in the centre-back but Motherwell look to have stolen a march. The Fir Park outfit are looking to get a pre-contract done that will see Lamie move for nothing in the summer. Gallagher has already made the move west Livingston had wanted to open talks with the 26-year-old over a new deal but he had indicated he wanted to keep his options open. Since then he has fallen down the pecking order at Livi. The Staggies were willing to pay a fee but Lamie turned down that move because he wasn’t keen on a move to the Highlands. A move to Fir Park would mean the former Morton defender is able remain in the central belt. The move could also have the potential of European football if third-placed Motherwell keep themselves up at the top end of the Premiership. Gallagher and Lamie appear to still be pretty pally if social media is anything to go by...

weeyin
Noticed this in the Evening Times today (at the end of an article about Peter Hartley steering clear of Turnbull in training in case he injures him): Quote Meanwhile, Motherwell manager Stephen Robinson says that his forward-planning for next season is being made easier by his side's lofty league position, with his budget for next term already all-but secure. “We can book pre-season trips and games and looking at pre-contracts in," he said. "We’re looking at people to see how we can make the side stronger. We’ve been doing that since the window closed and we’re well on our way to making additions.”

sinjy
Carroll, Ilic, Gallagher, Polworth, Hylton, Long, Seedorf, O'Hara, Mazinga and Mugabe were signed in summer. All apart from Ilic, Mazinga and Mugabe have made a considerable contribution to us being third in the league and safely in the top six. Polworth Gallagher and Long have been outstanding. Mazinga and Seedorf are punts that may or may not yet come good. I don't know what Robinson has to do to please everyone. He had a massive rebuilding job and has done great. 8 hours ago, Haggischomper said: He can make the side stronger by getting rid of 90% of the shite he signed last year Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk

Robinson's signing record is as good as any in the last 15 years at Motherwell. McCall probably signed higher quality, but he had a much larger budget to play with and still signed his fair share of dross, as any manager will do. The signings of Gallagher, Polworth and Carroll alone are more than enough to offset any damage signing guys like Sloth. And O'Hara has been a key player since he came into the side. Long showed again yesterday how important he is to our team. If you want to compare to McCall, his first summer transfer window brought in Devlin, Cummins, Heatherington, ZFA, Clancy, Daley, Hughes and Ojamaa. Generously that would be about 2 successes. Again, if the reports are accurate that he has options down south, he'll not be coming to Motherwell to sit on our bench. He'll be coming to play football. Not to mention, we won't be signing him to sit on the bench either.

Kmac
With the best will in the world, if we do finish third, we will be arguably one of the weakest sides in recent times to do so. We have a plethora of wingers/forwards which are utter dross. None of Illic, Seedorf, Manzinga, Ndjoli, Aarons or Hylton will go down in folklore as being anything like top class players. They are mostly jobbers, whereby six small salaries could arguably be condensed into 3 decent salaries and a higher calibre of player (a tactic that I along with others have been calling for). Watt is likely to move on as will Long. The later has been exceptional in the past couple of matches however has been a frustrating figure and questionably does not score enough goals for the amount of opportunities that his pace presents. We are probably looking at a completely new forward line for next season which wouldn't be a disaster. In midfield, we will need to strengthen. Turnbull will be gone and Polworth has blown hot and cold all season and needs competion. O'Hara could however be worth offering a contract to. We need a new right back as Grimshaw still can't defend over 90 minutes and Tait's legs sadly look to be gone. A new centre half would also be welcome as well as a new goalkeeper given that Gillespie will be away. It will yet again be a busy summer rather through necessity than design, particularly when it comes to forwards. 2

Just enjoy the moment , it could be a relegation dog fight next year....who knows What you like when things aren’t going well? Money shouldn't be a hurdle however come the summer. We have rushed to sell/punt players to pay off soft loans which we have succeeded in doing, thus we're in surplus, with a now higher league position than forecast, hence it's fair to expect a little higher investment in the playing squad, surely? Am I expecting on the other hand, more shite to arrive from the national league, absolutely. Indeed, it could be a relegation fight and over 25 years of coming to Fir Park have certainly provided many darker than brighter days on the whole however It's not something we should be planning for any more... Surely our entire business model, by it's very definition should be planning for success. This year saw us budget for for 10th and at least finish 6th, which is an extra 500K than planned. Is there harm to be done by off-setting and budgeting for 8th place next year? Chances are, after Turnbull, the likelihood of off-loading a youth prospect are low for the time being given the lack of apparent top level talent coming through in the next group. I'm therefore not suggesting we break the bank however an investment in infrastructure is required with the money, as is some short term playing squad investment to give a little back to the fans. Kmcalpin
We have the core of a good side but the fringe players haven't been of the quality we'd want. We should be motre than ok for a goalie with Carson re-signing, and perhaps Ferguson as back up, if he re-signs. Struggling at full back. Grimshaw is the best we have although weak defensively and I'm still not sure about Carroll. Tait is not the player he was and I'd be surprised if he's offered a new deal. We're also struggling in the middle. Gallagher is the standout but he may move on but other than him??? I'd move on Hartley and Mugabi (if possible) and given Dunne's injury record he may also be surplus to requirements. Midfield shouldn't be too bad with Polworth and Campbell and O'Hara would be a good addition ...if we can afford him. Struggling a wee bit on the wings. Up front, I'm not sure that the initially impressive Watt will stay and Long will surely attract a richer club. So another complete revamp is on the cards. I suspect we'll try to sign a traditional/physical No 9. So, another rebuild on the cards but hopefully a little bit more cash for Robbo to play with. Yorkyred
If we finish top four it’s been an excellent season. Folk can analyse individual players all they like but that would see us above both Edinburgh teams and giving Aberdeen a real run for their money plus finishing above everyone else on a similar or higher playing budget. The reality is we will always lose our better players and have to take a chance on others while trying for some strength in depth. If even 60% of those we sign work out it’s pretty good going given we have to take a punt on on a good few of them and in my view we signed some crackers in the summer. Way more positives than negatives this season.
