    • Happy we have accepted the quoted fee of 3.25m + add ons.
    • Think we should have held out for more, but still sold this summer
    • Think we should have kept David for at least one more season
    • Happy we have accepted the quoted fee of 3.25m + add ons, but shouldn't have accepted a bid from a club in Scotland

Rumoured 10K per week 4 year deal.

If he stays he can’t be pissed off with Motherwell as - allegedly - when the price in his contract was reached he was allowed to talk to the club that made the offer, he or his agent knocked it back so he’s no reason to upset.

Personally I think that if he stays he will only increase his value which should benefit  the club long term.

Good money. But the rumour is McGinn went to Villa for £28k a week. A bit more advanced in his career admittedly but shows what can be achieved. And guess who missed out there! If  Turnbull’s Agent can get strong interest from Championship or Premier League Clubs there is no reason David cannot get more than Celtic are offering. I do get the feeling with David though that money is not everything. He is looking for the right fit for his ambitions. If he is strong he can get both

I have to assume that there is enough interest from other clubs to prompt him to hold out for better offers.

I agree that we should have just released the statement to say we accepted the bid then left it at that. Fans are going to moan either way, that’s what we do, and they should have waited until things were signed and sealed before trying to justify it.

in relation to that, I have found the comments from Burrows, Wilson, and our friendly journalists about how great a deal this is and how lucky we are, and why we should be grateful,  to be really cringeworthy. I don’t think anyone has a huge issue about us selling our players, in this case the issue is who it was to, the timing,  and the manner in which it was communicated that pissed some folk off.

That tweet from Celtic is one of the most unprofessional clusterfucks from a social media account that I've ever seen. Absolutely tremendous!

What are they trying to achieve with that?

I think I read earlier in this thread that Turnbull has the same agent as Stuart Armstrong. If so, there is a bit of tension between club and agent. That might explain the toys being thrown out the pram.

As an aside, credit to Turnbull for not rushing into anything. Of course he may still end up at Parkhead but there can’t be too many young Scots that have previously rejected the opportunity to sign for Celtic or Rangers. All too often, heads are turned at the slightest interest from either club.

Fingers crossed he gets the move he really wants.

Yes, exactly. What a lovely guy David Turnbull is.  David, if on this forum,  just do what you believe is best for you and your family.

Yes and sign for Bournemouth.

Huge respect to @Alan_Burrows and @MotherwellFC board on an outstanding deal. Never good to lose our young talent but leadership is about choices and the long term health of our club. This secures a generation of talent to come. Well done!

Time to pull out the "Moult" deal and offer the same package to Turnbull for the duration of him time with us.

My thoughts are if celtic deal dead (hopefully) then we might get a preseason and some early Betfred games out of DT... and then after some solid perfomances we may get more bids to our liking, particularly teams maybe holding back to see the full options.

Wilson was Royal Bank of Scotland's Deputy Chief Economist in 2007.

Definitely a man who knows about the long term health of a business. They only needed a £45.5 billion bail out!

David Turnbull seems to be approaching any potential transfer in the same confident and mature (beyond his years) way we’ve had the pleasure of seeing him play for us.

How many times has taken the extra touch or created the space when others would have been hurried/panicked into snap decision.

I’ll be delighted if he stays and equally delighted if he goes to a club of his choosing.

No matter what, let's just wish Davie the best. He's been an absolute joy to watch. I don't think we'll see him in claret and amber again, similarly I don't think we'll see him in green and white, what I do know is, we'll make a shitload of money out the fella and he'll have a magnificent career regardless.

Deserved.

So i think it’s safe to say that it was Turnbull’s agent who leaked the stories of Celtics bid being accepted and him turning down their terms.

Maybe it would have been more prudent of both clubs to to stay quiet until a deal was done, and let the papers print what they want. Fans are going to piss their pants either way.

I'm hoping that David is anxious to pull on the Motherwell jersey next season! All the hype he'll get now will attract the attention of the kind of clubs ie. continental teams like Madrid, PSG etc. that would suit his style and then the bidding war can start, happy outcome for all concerned. Fuck going to Celtic, what a waste!:P

All about opinions and that is mine....ps...HE'S...STILLLLLLLLL ONE OF OUR OWN....HE'S...STILLLLLLLL ONE OF OUR OWWWWWWNNNNNN

His intention might have been to hold out for a better deal, but in doing so he seems to have enraged the Sellic masses, he might now think moving there might be a bad idea even if he gets his money, seems a target is already painted on his back by their boo boys.

Aye and Gerry McCann is probably a dab hand at changing nappies.

The country still hasn't recovered from the greed of Wilson and his mates.  He is doing well though.

He should worry not ending up playing for those tramps. David Turnbull will do alright wherever he goes and so will Motherwell. The facts hes not "Celtic Minded" and star struck by the manky mob just makes the process that wee bit more enjoyable.

I wonder if the seething redtops will publicly divulge the name of David Turnbull's agent or the firm which employs him?  Maybe they know which side their bread is buttered on.

Lawyer Liam O'Donnell is a driving force behind the Player Representation Service Pro-Legal now offered by PFA Scotland.

Liam explains the concept behind Pro-Legal:

"Our law firm were assisting PFA Scotland in sorting out a number of complaints and disputes between Players and their Agents.  We decided the simple solution going forward was to start our own Agency wing working alongside PFA Scotland.  Importantly, and uniquely, the agency is not run by Agents, but by Lawyers working alongside ex professional football players at PFA Scotland."

This concept brought safeguards for the Player:-

  • Lawyers are governed by Law Society Codes of Conduct. Lawyers must put the Client/Player first at all times. A lawyer is not allowed to benefit from the client without the client knowing.
  • All contracts entered into by our Players are reviewed by a Specialist Employment Lawyer and by PFA Scotland.
  • These safeguards are important. Significantly, no money will ever be taken out of a deal to improve the Agents deal or to look after unnecessary middle men.
  • Lawyers are trained negotiators.
  • Senior Players using the agency also get complete legal cover from some of the top Lawyers in the country.

Furthermore, there are three separate strands to the Agency which make it unique:-

  1. The football knowledge and contacts.  This comes from all of PFA Scotland's own team of experienced former professionals.
  2. Pro Legal's Director of Operations Ricky Gillies is another experienced ex professional covering all Players day to day issues and general liaison.
  3. The legal input-there are four registered FA Lawyers in the team led by Liam O'Donnell and John Paul Mowberry.  All contracts are negotiated by the Lawyers and then reviewed by Margaret Gribbon.  Margaret has been PFA Scotland's lawyer for a number of years and is an Employment Law Specialist accredited by the Law Society of Scotland.
  4. PFA Scotland-Players have the comfort of knowing that PFA Scotland is a founding member of the Agency and the reason for their very existence is the protection of the Player at all times.

Word is now beginning to spread about the Agency and the various services it offers.  Among the client list are Stuart Armstrong (Celtic), Andy Robertson (Hull City), Murray Wallace (Scunthorpe), Grant Hanley (Newcastle Utd), John Baird (Falkirk), Mark Durnan (Dundee United) and Nicky Cadden (Livingston).

That sounds a lot better than the Willie McKay or Barry Hughes style agents.
