    • Happy we have accepted the quoted fee of 3.25m + add ons.
    • Think we should have held out for more, but still sold this summer
    • Think we should have kept David for at least one more season
    • Happy we have accepted the quoted fee of 3.25m + add ons, but shouldn't have accepted a bid from a club in Scotland
    • Other thoughts. Please comment

Was Turnbull not offered an improved contract recently?. You would think he would bite the hand of you for more money for sitting out injured. Anybody actually spoke to him?. Was he at the recent Hall of Fame dinner?. Does he still want to play for us or biding his time until he leaves?

I know I keep saying this, but I'd be delighted to see Turnbull play for us for another season and a half.

We shouldn't be flogging off our best assets before they even manage a full season in our first team. While it's valuable to be able to develop players to sell on later, the fundamental reason for our academy to exist has to be to provide a quality of player that we could never afford to buy.  And the only reason our team exists is to provide entertainment to the paying punters on a Saturday afternoon. It's not a business that needs to expand its range of products, increase shareholder dividends or fund a takeover.

And while £3 million or whatever should never be dismissed out of hand, it has to be balanced with providing value to the club. And under many circumstances, value to the club doesn't always mean money in the bank.

(Of course, if we were desperate for the cash, or Turnbull was desperate to leave, it would be a different story).

Ordinarily I'd agree, but if the £3 million sum is correct then it's a no-brainer. This is "once in a lifetime" type money for the club, and could pretty much change how we stand financially for years to come.

I'm stil in my 40's and  the club has already had this type of money , arguably more than once .

For a player we've sold? I may be losing my marbles, but I don't recall ever getting more than £2 million?

There was so much mis-information/guessing going about in June and July that I think a lot held on to a September or October best case scenario return.

The September thing came about originally I think because his op was referred to as similar to Suarez when he had a knee op on his meniscus. Not even sure it was similar but I do remember reading that. Suarez came back very quickly:  https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-27940923

You also had media reports sayng anywhere between 3 and 6 months as of 2ndJuly which I think is the real cause and some hope from some hed be back end of Sept: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/david-turnbull-shares-upbeat-image-17369733.amp

Yes think I read one or two reports like that, obviously far off the mark.

"type money" for the club , I considered it in relation to the operating period, in a relatively modern sense, money for Boyd, O'Donnell , McFadden were all transformational in relation to the operating budgets at the time,  as amazing as £3million sounds (and is) it's really , what, Half? our operating budget?

the others were in comparison, close to or better than that and I'm sure older fans may be able to refer back to other deals that the income for the club was  significant in relation the year

not taking Alex McLeish into account.

believe me I always take into account the ginger ones liberal use of the cheque book and other assets, did we score from his later signing of Faddy for £6-7million?

anyway , Turnbull is back in training is he? it would be nice to see him being part of the squad , like on match days, club tracksuit etc , sitting with the other unused/injured players , being involved as a squad member

having some extra personal free time whilst recovering from the intervention' seemed appropriate, like any player who needed some time,

but seems to be have been allowed quite an extended period cutting about in civvies and sitting with his missus, IF he's fit to train .

The media team had some focus around him on Saturday, I thought there may have been an update

Motherwell: David Turnbull looks to his future

David Turnbull, right, says his time will come at Motherwell

Motherwell midfielder David Turnbull says he is setting "no targets" as he battles back from a knee operation.

The 20-year-old was poised for a £3.25m switch to Celtic in the summer before the deal collapsed due to an issue raised in his medical, prompting preventative surgery.

Voted Young Player of the Year last season, Turnbull's last game for the Fir Park side was 18 May.

"It's been a long four or five months," Turnbull told the club.

"I was on crutches for six to eight weeks and then after that I was at the gym building strength to get my leg back the way it was.

"You don't know how long it will be or what else will happen, it's just good to be off the crutches. It's been all positive.

"It's good seeing the boys every day, they keep my spirits up. I've been to most games home and away but sometimes it's tough wishing you were out there, but I know my time will come."

At the AGM SR said that he was seeing the specialist at the end of the week 20th Dec hoping that he can go to the next stage of his recovery, but no news of how that went, I just hope no news is good news.

Plan was he was to go to our winter training camp. So we'll know one way or another fairly soon.
