underboyleheating
A Bradford historians tribute to the claret and amber yolk shirt and it’s adoption by Motherwell in 1913. Quote Motherwell’s first game in claret and amber was for a Scottish League fixture with Celtic (1-1, at Fir Park) on August 23, 1913. The Motherwell Times of 29th August reported that ‘Punctual to time the teams took the field, Motherwell wearing their new colours. The general opinion regarding the new colours is that while they may be distinctive they are by no means pretty.’ 2
Goggles & Flippers
I thought it was down to the Duke of Hamilton's racing colours or is that been an urban myth/convoluted in the mists of time?
Happy Dosser
Accies wore the Chooky Hamilton’s racing colours of cerise and French grey between 1908-13. Their red and white hoops may just be a more proletarian version. I think it’s believed by the club that it copied Bradford City’s colours and yoke after they won the FA cup before WW1 and changed to stripes later when the English club did too.
