It's not so much having a sponsor that can make or break a shirt for me, but who the sponsor happens to be. Ian Skelly was pretty iconic, Cash Converters not so much.

Could be worse, when I played amateur football many moons ago we once played a team who had their sponsor on front of their kit........Periwinkle Quality Fish!!. I kid you not

I'll give you, cutting about with a top with Cash Converters plastered across it was tough. But I'm sure I read on here a few years back it was a pretty decent sponsorship deal in comparison to other years we had from them...

That said I agree, I don't think any company will benefit from sponsors on the shirt beyond brand awareness. Doubt anyone used Commsworld's services...

Since we are going down the retro route I’ve dug out this concept from an old hard drive. I’ve added the new Macron branding etc.

This concept paid homage to Bradford City who we took our colours from, and our mid 1920s C&A striped shirt that we wore when we toured the world.

Was it possibly the other way around?  We went into the 2010'11 season with no sponsor and I think there was the option to latterly have the sponsor added.  A good number, chose not to.

You could be right, it was a good few years ago now.

On a slightly different note, does anyone know of somewhere that one could purchase retro Motherwell tops of years gone by? I’ve a hankering now for a genuine vintage number...

Yes a long term deal from Paddy Power would be ideal, for logo free shirts, i hope we are negotiating with them. :)

Sadly campaigns like that only last a short time. I’m sure Paddy Power will have moved on to a different campaign now.

Toffs still do a couple. Our ‘signature’ home shirt is hard to beat.
Toffs, £38

I didn't mind the pawnbroker side of the Cash Converters business -that's an unfortunate, but necessary service for a lot of people in hard times. They also provided payday loans, though, which I'm less enthusiastic about.

Is this the new kit for 20-21?

Going to be controversial here and say that that design reinforces my point that we should always play in white shorts, which contrast really well with claret and amber *places colander on head against incoming pelters*

Was the pinstripe jersey we wore as a change strip in the '90s not a reference to our striped '20s shirts? Your version is a belter, and I speak as a sad old hoopophile.

You'll get your wish this season. I'd be prepared to see them with the black socks similar to above, if not, get the idea I the bin, tradition or not.

As has been stated the blue away shorts will certainly mean that we will be wearing white shorts in the upcoming season. It also gives us the opportunity to wear them with the away if required.

I’ve been a supporter of a one off reintroduction of black socks for a several years now, and I suspect it will happen at some point. Who knows, this year might be the one? I’ve also supported the  reintroduction of hooped sleeves and the reinstating of our ‘full hoop’ on our shirts. I won’t hold my breath on the latter two being done, although I live in hope that the full hoop will appear again at some point. Personally our traditional home shirt should never be without it. The ‘claret band’ has become more of an advertising feature in recent years rather than an integral part of our kit/shirt history.
