The last time Miller was in the u17s rather than u21s it was when the u17s had bigger games. He would definitely have learned more from playing Italy u17s than Kazakhstan u21s.

Yamal has been playing for Barca under top level coaches and in the same system as Spain. Miller is coached by Kettlewell and Ricky Foster and and despite having great technical skills had pass completion of less than 70% because the team is so poorly coached that he often has no one to pass to. Our young players are slower to develop because of the lack of quality coaching in the country.

Abderdeen gave a 16 year old his debut this season. Miller played a few days after his 16th birthday and Celtic gave Ben Doak a game aged 16. I think Yamal would be fine here.

Three 17 or under players started a match in the Premiership last season.

Apart from that you had a few more guys coming off the bench 2 or 3 times.

Scottish football is utter garbage at giving youth players a chance or promoting them up the levels at anything other than a glacial pace.

David Watson and Lennon Miller are the two most experienced players in the league under 18 and they have 2 U21 caps between them.

The U21s  have only had one competitive fixture which was against Kazakhstan since last November so there was no point in moving them up when the u19s had a chance to qualify for the European Championship and potentially the u20 World Cup.

The u21s have been doing well in their group anyway with Barron and Cameron starting in midfield. Miller and Watson will be involved in the big qualifiers coming up against Spain and Belgium.

Watson and Miller should be playing in the senior squad instead of some of the dross  Clarke selects.

Scottish football is going nowhere on an international level. Just watch back our pathetic showing at Euro 2024, which should see Clarke removed, but the SFA won’t do that. It’s a job for the boys malarkey (e.g. Gemmill and Stark) and there seems to be a disconnect between the under’s teams to the A-squad pathway.

Our coaching is shite and conservative, the structures to allow youth to develop are next to non-existent, and it costs a day’s wages to hire a pitch that isn’t riddled with needles and dogshite.

We need a root and branch reform, but that won’t happen under the cabal who run the SFA.

Been saying that for years. There are good examples to follow - France being a great one. They managed to reform their setup from a debacle to Euro and World Cup winning teams. We won't have that level of success, but their approach would definitely makes things much better.

Bonhof had some good ideas when he was U-21 coach that were completely ignored too.

We’re effectively asking those who run the show to stop hiring their mates, to hold themselves and their mates to account, and then to fire their mates and themselves. Same goes for the refereeing structure. It won’t happen until someone else steamrolls it.

It definitely needs that, and it also needs belief in the new methods. During their adoption, France famously failed to qualify for the '94 World Cup finals when they lost their last game 2 -1 against Bulgaria (conceding in the 90th minute, when a draw would have seen them through).

Instead of panicking, the French FA stuck to their 10 year plan and ended up winning the World Cup in '98 and the Euros in 2000.

Maybe Eric Barmack is the man for the job. I'm sure he'd pitch a good AI-generated script to the SFA.

Rangers are after him

Today Rangers. Tomorrow the world (via Rotherham, Partick Thistle, Linfield, Hartlepool, Hamilton and Ayr).

Or maybe that just applies to Jake Hastie.

Miller strikes me as someone who, like Max Johnston, would do better for himself with a move to a European club.

Sorry I know it's not well related but if that eng pen is penalty. Defenders not allowed to block shots now? Also mccoist is an English ass kisser

A Rangers man supporting England?

(Lee Dixon said it was never a pen)

McCoist is a prick.

The big issue up here is with the pundits with ferdinand and Wright the worst but jeez mccoist took it to a new level last night.  Unbearable.

Total respect to Gary Neville after calling it a disgraceful decision

He always has been. He has the ‘gift of the gab’ though so people fall for his cheeky chappy, everyone’s pal act. He’s false and pretentious and laughs at his own shite patter. I wouldn’t believe a word that comes out of his mouth.

I can’t deny him that one, but even his Co-commentary that day sounded over exaggerated and pretentious.
