numpty
Other than Flow's tweet, "bad face injury" is the only other suggestion I could see on Twitter as to what happened. Must have been a bad one regardless, hope he makes a good recovery.
dennyc
According to the Gretna official Twitter page last night , the lad was awaiting surgery as a result of the injury. Sounds like a terrible accident and understandable that no more detailed information was made available. Everybody agreed the Officials made the correct decision to abandon the match. Hopefully all goes well and he makes a full recovery.

weeyin
From Gretna 2008's website: Quote We are pleased to be able to update you all that Matty Connelly has now been discharged from hospital. He had surgery yesterday which went well and he now starts his recovery. His family commented, "We would like to thank all the staff at Gretna FC 2008 and Darvel FC , especially the physios, for their quick response to his injury and for that we are forever grateful. We would also like to thank the staff at Crosshouse Hospital in Kilmarnock who were amazing". Both the family and the club would also like to send a big thank you to all the well wishers from across the football family who have been in touch since Saturday afternoon asking after Matty. It has helped everyone connected with the club and his family so much. Finally, get well soon Matty, with all our love from all at Gretna FC 2008. Alex Thomson Chair Gretna Football Club 2008.
