Wee bit unfair on Shields. Since he arrived he’s been asked to play out wide but he’s really a centre-forward.  Maybe we should play two up and try pairing him through the middle with Van Veen.

Shields delivered a couple of great crosses last night, which probably tempts managers to try him out wide...he does deserve a chance thro middle , one thing for sure when things get tough kvv is going to disappear or get booked

Quite a few of his Scotland u17 team mates moved to bigger clubs during the summer so getting him signed was great work by the club. We lost Bailey Rice to Rangers, Ben Doak went from Celtic to Liverpool, Rory Wilson from Rangers to Aston Villa and Charlie McArthur Kilmarnock to Newcastle. We obviously can't match wages with bigger clubs but we can offer first team football.

Is Lennon's father Lee Miller and his grandfather Ian Miller, if  Measles is his grandfather I am really feeling old.

Plenty of positives last night. I haven't enjoyed a game as much  for a long time. Plenty of intensity, energy and good, exciting, football on the deck. Such a change from GA's reign. Good to see young lads like Lennon Miller get their chance and Stuart McKinstry coming home and performing well.  A good all round team effort.  I was impressesd with McGinn and especially Penney. Midfield  created plenty of chances, Van Veen was in the mood, Tierney really caught the eye (needs to improve his finishing though), and Efford was a  revelation on the wing. The caveat is, of course, that we were playing an out of form Championship side.  Still you can only beat the team in front of you.   Penney looks to be a particularly good acquisition and Stuart McKinstry caught the eye with some really nice play.

Not sure about the second penalty but our general style and standard of play last night brought them about. In any event, ICT were a shade fortunate not to pick up more yellow cards and possibly a red, so they can't complain too much.

I have to agree wth El Grew though. We should have scored  7 or 8, but lacked a killer touch in the box, which was concerning and Stevie Hammell picked up on this in his post match comments. It wasn't costly against ICT last night but it could be against better quality opposition.   This deficiency though should be put in the context of an otherwise very good performance last night.

Hopefully our record against both Celtic , and the other mob improves under Hammell

Cant remember any Motherwell side going 4 years in a row without picking up even a draw against them, for years and years some of Celtic’s toughest games of the season were at Fir Park, would be great to cause a shock in the next round

Thought we were excellent last night. I understand we were playing a championship club, but Im struggling to recall a cup tie in recent memory where we looked so comfortable against a lower league opponent and despatched them with such ease. Remember this ICT team got to the play off final as recently as this May.  I also wouldnt rate them any worse than Sligo and we know how that turned out.

Its amazing the difference a new manager and a few weeks can make. There was an intensity, speed of thought and speed of pass that we just didnt get under GA.

We played some really nice footbal with lovely interplay between Slattery, Goss, Spittal, Tierney and KVV. The movement off the ball was much better and we created some very good chances over and above the ones we scored.

You can see little partnerships developing in all areas of the pitch and its clear to see that many of these players are indeed much better than they were allowed to show under the previous regime.

Its still early days, and much tougher tests lie ahead, but its all very encouraging and actually a nice feeling to be enjoying going to the fitba again.

Morton springs to mind, we bullied the hell out of them, three years or so ago,

League Cup Group Stages in 2019. We sailed through that group and looked every bit the top flight side against Morton and the rest of the lower league opponents. Sherwin Seedorf and Jermaine Hylton actually looked like players in those games and had loads of our fans excited about their potential.

Then the league season started and they were well and truly found out.

TBF they started the league campaign well, both got goals against Hibs (3-0) and then the following week same again against Hearts (3-2) at Tynecastle but sadly the decline would be quick heading into October.

The current Celtic side is the strongest they’ve had in years, probably even more so than Brendan Rodgers sides. They rested several players last night yet were able to bring in the likes of Turnbull, Forrest, Siegrist, Starfelt, Mooy. That is incredible squad depth. The way they play is very difficult for the rest of the league to live with, they are fast paced and press high up the park for almost the entire 90 minutes.

That being said though, there has definitely been a mentality issue from us when facing them and the other Glasgow lot over the past decade. Even when Celtic were at their worst in years in 20/21 and with no support in to give them a vocal advantage we still couldn’t lay a glove on them and lost 3-0, 4-1 and 2-1.

Too often we are beaten before a ball is kicked.

This is exactly my thoughts exactly, would like to see us turn up at Fir Park and give both these mobs a game this season , even if it is a 2-1 defeat in the last minute it would still be better than some of the 4,5,6 goal defeats we have seen in recent seasons

Great to see some intensity coming back into our play. It was desperately needed and is essential when going up against the big 2.  Celtic do look quite formidable right now. To have any chamce of success we will need to try and match their work rate. Thankfully our fitness levels seem to be improving, and with the number of young players now coming into the squad, hopefully we have the replacements from the bench to maintain that level over 90 mins. Still a huge ask, but, as others have said, would just be nice to be competitive again.......
