In SK case it May 2025 which is normally at seasons end. So either side needs to give a notice period that they do not intend to continue (generally 3 months) otherwise the 12 months kicks in.  I'd be amazed if there wasn't an element of compensation for a contract terminated in football but it certainly wouldn't be prohibitive.

So it seems that the only point they would ever be due a full 12 months of salary would be if they were canned immediately following the renewal reset point. In that case, either bin them now and pay a few months compo or tell them they won’t be renewed at the end of May unless they do a better bloody job!

Its not an easy decision. Glad I don't have to make it. I feel utterly bored watching Motherwell but frankly that was the same under Graham Alexander , Stevie Hammel and now Stuart Kettlewell so would we be sacking him just to replace him with the same turgid stuff. Am I being unrealistic in what I watch, Im not sure because it feels like years since I enjoyed watching us other than a few standout games..

Quite simply, the man’s a fraud.

Oh and if the board are doing their job properly, they should have him in for a discussion about the team’s present form and what his plan is to stop the bleeding.

Their plan has clearly been to give him unfettered access to the chequebook.

McGhee's first season in 2007-2008 and McCalls in 2012-2013 probably the most entertaining in recent 20 years

That supersedes the february one.

It does say 'new rolling contracts'. I know it's not the football 'industry' but when I've worked with rolling contracts in the past, the 'length of the contract' could be changed to 'notice period'. Every day, you woke up and had that length of time left on your contract. This may be different though, I don't know.

Stuart Kettlewell set to quit as Motherwell boss in face of fan fury following St Johnstone shockers

It seems the weekend defeat at McDiarmid Park has proved to be the last straw for the under fire manager

Record Sport understands he 40-year-old is ready to call time on his time at Fir Park and the shock move comes after back-to-back defeats at St Johnstone in the Premiership and Scottish Cup. The Motherwell boss has taken it in the neck from a small section of supporters and he has decided now is the time to head for the Fir Park exit.

Kettlewell has taken Motherwell to fifth in the league, on one of the smallest budgets in the league and the Steelmen also haven’t been helped by a crippling injury list that has robbed him of a number of key players, like Aston Oxborough and captain Paul McGinn. He has also averaged more than a 40 per cent win rate since he took over from Stevie Hammell back in February 2023. The former Ross County boss dragged them out of the relegation fight and to the top of the bottom six. The following season they finished ninth and this campaign they were in the top six.

Kettlewell has also helped develop some of the club’s top rising talent, like Lennon Miller and Ewan Smith. He has also proved to have an eye in the transfer market, bringing in Theo Bair on a free transfer and then selling him to Auxerre for more than £2 million in the summer.

Kettlewell held talks with Fir Park chiefs who were keen for him to stay but it looking increasingly like Motherwell will need to begin their search for a new manager. Kettlewell had previously a proven track record at with the Staggies, guiding them to promotion and back into the Scottish Premiership.

To be fair to Kettlewell when he first took over we were utterly fantastic to watch exciting.Wing backs bombing forward we were really good i thought.

To now utterly rudderless ship going round in circles it makes you not care its not the fact we are getting beat its the manner.

There was nothing more magial than watching Chris Humphrey blow everyone away and leave them in the dust.

Despite his faults, I would be sorry to see him go. But, perhaps it's in his and our interests for a refresh.

He has tried his best, and that's all you can ask. Despite what some of our fans may think, managing a club at our level must be extremely challenging. Not many managers last beyond 3 years now, and must get instant results.

The next guy will have the same difficulties, and I'm sure there will be a New Manager out post before the season is out.

If he does go, good luck Stuart and all the best in your future.

Maybe it should be a new thread but if everyone was available,  what would be strongest team we could field?

We vould compare that to what's on field at minute? I don't think strongest 11 have been on show at any time this season.

I know it's hard with some playrrss just on board but would be interesting..

Yes but you could also say the same for other teams with injuries

is our best 11 better than any other teams best 11

that would be the question, but u made a good point 👍

Aye, time for wellfan and mjc to call for the sacking of the new guy.

I thought he should have gone in December 2023 and again last summer but I wasn’t actively calling for him to go throughout the season. I was critical of him for his style of play but i genuinely did not dislike the guy even though things were starting to turn sour over the past month or so.

Only time will tell if this is a good thing for us but I will be very surprised if it’s not Frail who gets the job or else someone already involved in the club ie. Davie Clarkson or (heaven forbid) Richard Foster.
