Stuart Kettlewell discussion thread

For a guy that's worked within the media in the past, his latest actions are non to bright.  Sometimes it's best to keep a dignified silence.

It's obvious he just could not cope with criticism from fans, and perhaps players and jumped in the knowledge he had a rolling contract to tide him over til his next job.

We gave him a platform. He did well upto the point that he ran out of ideas and stomach to continue and perhaps tarnish his earlier good work.

I expect he will rock up at Thistle sporting trendy ear plugs!

Watched the whole thing now, and although I do have an element of sympathy over the family issues, its just so wrong on many other levels.

Comes across as if he felt very under appreciated for all the work that he did and the sacrifices he made re his family life and thats all very well and good. Thats a principled decision you make as an individual. But dont make it about personal abuse of family members, which seems to be increasingly less the case the more you hear.

It wasnt so much an interview as a PR piece by the journalist. Trying to paint it as there being a specific problem at Motherwell is beyond the pale.

I presume Alexander is one being referenced and that the other office holders were the ex Chairman and his buddy.

Absolutely no context given and just left hanging like a bad smell.

Everyone knows that the behaviour of certain individuals at the football can be unpleasant and shouldnt be tolerated. But it happens at every club and is unfortunately part of the territory. It doesnt make it right. Just a fact that requires to be dealt with.

If you are unable to deal with it, maybe being a football manager isnt for you?

I had always stuck up for SK even throughout his disastrous run of games last season and most of this season but for him to bring this out in the sun on the day we appoint a new manager is really poor form, especially when he’s had almost a month to make a proper statement.

This is one big FO to the fans really.

Agree with you, I was a supporter of his on here and had sympathy re injuries etc...I've only read bits and pieces and won't listen to interview.

Really gone down in my estimation now , on same day we appoint a new boss, all a bit tacky.

OK watched first minute , that'll do me...he would be a great salesman.

We’ll find out next year when he’s working at Arnold Clark.

“tell you what Scotty, this is a great wee run around, I built it myself in my workshop, I’ve spent 20hrs a day working on it. I’m not going to take any advice on it from anyone who hasn’t dedicated their life tampering with a 1.2 engine…… “

….it’ll work a treat for 6months and then it’ll be a right off and he’ll blame Arnold Clark”

One final thing.

He notes his family (apparent Rangers fans) were in hospitality at the Aberdeen game.

I was hospitality as well and there were cheers going up when Rangers scored (Game was on the TV).

I was a bit bemused at the time, but makes more sense now, although could be circumstantial.

He's old news now. It's sad how it ended but the club will be in a far better position for his reasons for leaving then Stuart Kettlewell will. How can he possibly take on another managerial role in football after the reasons he gave for chucking it? He's thrown himself under the bus in my opinion.

🤣 And the car would have a backfire problem built in.

He potentially doesn't want to. He might go back to working with young players.

I was in hospitality that day too - was a strange one when that happened. As you say though that would explain it.

That's probly because he has been found out to be totally nae use working with the big boys. Maybe as a coach but never a manager.

My Thistle-supporting mates told me at the weekend that the talk amongst them was that Doolan was about to go and Kettlewell was lined up to replace him. Wonder if that's why his BBC buddies haven't handed him a gig.

The timing does seem pretty convenient.....

If there was a conspiracy in place for SK to give up a 1 year salary pay out to join Thistle on a, no doubt, lesser wage, then it sounds like a plan cooked up by Pinky and the Brain.

Putting the "abuse by fans" excuse aside for a moment, it felt like SK was running out of ideas for us and that was turning into frustration with everyone from the refs and the media to VAR and, of course, the fans.

I don't think he was lined up for the sack, but the resignation didn't surprise me too much. He hadn't gone full "deer in the headlights" in his interviews, but he was heading in that direction.

He was never going to be out the game for very long because that's just how football works. Whether it's at Thistle, Ross County, or some other club, it's odds on he'll have a new job by the spring.

IF that is the case I would think the Thistle board might think again after that piece in The Sun. Their fans are not shrinking violets when it's not going well.

Who said anything about leaving us being part of it?

He was out of work.

He does an interview saying he would love to be back in work.

Thistle sack Doolan.

Thats convenient.

Despite being a supporter of his at one time, I always did think he was like someone you'd meet in a car showroom...no offence to any car salesmen on here

It basically was like an Oprah v Meghan Markle interview with that journalist looking shocked all the time.

"Honest Derek......I couldn't believe 1800 fans in middle of January paid a lot of money to go to cup tie and see us put in a terrible performance and then have the audacity to be angry!!!"

"That's terrible Stuart........especially after you signed Theo Bair"
