Bowman was great for us, no nonsense front man put himself and his elbows about a bit I liked him.

Yeah, I liked his style too. Wonder how he'd cope with VAR, right enough.

Stevie Mallan and former Aberdeen center-back Clark Robertson are looking to find clubs in Scotland. Robertson seems to have a decent enough CV but I can't really remember much about him. Mallan always seemed to flatter to deceive, St Mirren would seem the obvious choice.

Hopefully, Kettlewell has put a deadline on the contract renewals as opposed to last year when someone signed on the eve of the campaign.

I thought Mallan would be in his mid-30s by now. Nope. 28. 😳

I've not seen enough/remember anything of Robertson, but he seems to fit the bill for the kind of signing we'd make. 30 now, has decent experience in Championship/League 1.

Maybe if you are into bloodsports.

Ryan Bowman made Curtis Main look prolific.  He scored 10 league goals over three seasons and 70+ matches.

His league goal tallies were 2, 7 and 1.

Last season he scored 1 goal in 26 for Shrewsbury which makes the fact he's been freed not that surprising.

agree - would prefer not to go for someone with a proven record of not scoring

I'd like to think we'd be making moves for some of the better strikers in the Scottish Championship - likes of Paton , 23years old and scored +20 goals per season.  Appreciate may need a small signing fee .

Worth remembering the last guy we signed from the Championship who had hit double figures in that league.

He proceeded to come to us and score 3 goals in around 50 games.

Saying that, I'm not against the club putting out some money on a transfer fee if the chances are good we could bring them in and get a season or two before selling them on for a profit.

Nobody ever suggested we make a move for Bowman, it was just a comment on how I liked his style and application when he was at Fir park.

Who was that?

Not that every Championship-level striker will do as badly as Shields, of course. But the gulf in quality is there for us to see when the playoffs happen each year usually.

Some fans complain when we sign a no-name player from the lower reaches of the English league, but I'd hazard a guess that the leagues we're signing from down south are likely better quality overall than the Championship up here.

I hear you David .  The broader the net the broader the opportunity of getting good players.

Re Shields - it was a massive gamble. He'd scored something like 20 goals in over 100 appearances at lower level - albeit 8 in his final season before coming to us. The data of 1 goal every 5-6 games should have been a red flag

At least the likes of Parton has notched up c50 goals in 100 appearances - that's the kind of player I'd love to see us land. Guys who've actually got a decent record.

There's still no word of the mysteriously missing Jon Obika. I've checked the Official website daily for updates or corrections but, nothing.

If its an error of omission no-one has bothered to rectify it. If it isn't that then why is it so mysterious?

Obika still had a year left on contract .. he is still with us ..

He has an option for a further year, which based on what Weir said at the AGM, the club was in control of.

Edit: actually, he might have meant newer contracts with options. Perhaps his is player controlled and they're trying to tell him to GTF, hence the no mention of him.

But the question is….. why does he not show up on official list of players and their status?
maybe the person typing the list got to Obika but then incurred a mysterious wrist injury?

Surely there will be a roumer soon on players coming in

I would hope we'll make some announcements soon, with most Scottish contracts finishing tomorrow.

As anticipated on this board some months ago. Could Killie not have waited another 48 hours to announce this? He is a signed  Livingston player until midnight tomorrow.

Livi have announced plenty (eight, I think) signings, including Reece McAlear who's under contract until the end of June at Tranmere. I don't see a problem, particularly given they announced Anderson was leaving already.

The season finished 11 days ago FFS, it's still May...

There is absolutely no need to get worked up about it, our first signing last season came in late June and that was a guy we had at the club the season prior

There will plenty of rumours and based on prior seasons, about 90% of the new players we bring in will not have been mentioned in any of them.

Also, the window doesn't close for another 3 months.
