SODs is fine, we need a squad. We are about to go through another significant rebuild with a manager thats new to the country, so having an experienced player thar can cover multiple positions is valuable. He may make mistakes, but we have a squad full of players that make mistakes, it just happens to be that we all notice more when SOD is involved.

I'll preface my next comment with the fact that every goal in every game could probably be tracked down to a defender doing something wrong, and sometimes you just have to accept that making defenders make mistakes is kind of the point of attacking, but Casey has been culpable for a bunch of goals this season too.

This is the issue tho I'd say about 40% of the goals we've conceded this season can be traced back to SOD or Casey making mistakes before them. The amount of times I've watched the 2 of them get caught under the ball is concerning.

To add here - you are not wrong.

My point on O'Donnell stands - to add Gordon turns his back and doesn't get close enough to the striker
Casey don't disagree but he is hardy and has certain attributes that can be forgiven

We've lost 50 goals this season and from my pov the defence needs strengthened as a whole.
O'Donnell staying doesn't help this.

Well, they're 40% of the defense, so that seems fair 😄

SOD will be utliised as a leader and his experience will be crucial next season, I believe Wimmer will look to bring in a RWB or CB to replace SOD, and SOD will be mostly used from the bench. I doubt we will see him in starting 11's much unless we end up with a significant injury list again.

I have a season ticket. I've missed a few games for varying reasons but been to enough

You will know then that almost everyone in the team gets stick if they make a mistake , it just so happens that SOD has made more mistakes than anyone else that have led to goals conceded . Maybe it's because he is our most experienced player and a Scotland international that the support expect better from him than anyone else.

I think that this kind of makes wellgirl's point about O'Donnell receiving a disproportionate amount of stick. Casey, for me, is responsible for just as many opposition goals and he seems to get an easier ride than O'Donnell from fans...

Of the players that featured on the right this season, either in a back three or as wing back, only McGinn has been an upgrade on SOD. And McGinn's best performances were when he was paired with SOD. They covered for each other when one pushed forward and looked comfortable doing it.

Kaleta was the messiah for a week or so and could do no wrong in the eyes of a good few. Then we saw how poor he really was defensively. Casey was tried on the right side of the back three and anyone who was at Perth saw how much of a disaster that was. Even Casey himself going by the rumours of the fall out with Kettlewell. Katroumbis has hardly played so hard to assess. Sparrow has far more energy than most but his defensive positioning is poor and has cost us goals......although he is being asked to play a role that is new to him.

Those criticising  SOD as a centre back do have a point.  But then Balmer, Blaney and Casey seem to get a much easier ride when they lose concentration or pass directly to the opposition. Or does anybody really think those three are error free?

SOD is certainly not the player he was several years ago but I believe he can contribute as a squad player and as an 'old head' that can set an example to those less experienced. On that basis I am happy to see him back for another season. I do expect Wimmer to find a preferred starter for that right side though.

For as long as I can remember there's always been one player who gets singled out by an element of our support for special treatment so SOD is just the latest in a long line.

He's certainly not the player he once was but he's far from being done and I'm happy to see him in the squad as a senior figure.

I think one of the reasons SOD gets more stick is because we know how good he can be. To me there is no doubts his standards have slipped this season

Personal view is the 'Scottish International' bit skewed expectations.  If' he'd come up through the ranks , never got to Scotland squad I suspect there would be more positivity towards him.

This is a local lad who we signed from a fellow SPL club back in 2020  and for 5 years given his best. He's about to be 33 years old and no longer has the engine to get up and down the flanks.  Being part of central defence doesn't seem the natural fit as he does switch off. I much prefer him moving forward.

Given he's aging and been around the club for 5 years, lives locally etc I can see why he's been extended for another year.  A very decent squad player.

Robinson, Alexander, Hammel, Kettlewell and now Wimmer have all wanted him around, between them they've seen enough , shame not all fans feel the same way but I generally believe this is more about expectations than what he's delivered.
