However I desperately hope he does not end up at Parkhead. I think the criticism was more to do with his family connections. With his grandfather being an ex-Celtic chairman, it was assumed by many he would be a cert to sign for them.
santheman
I'm more worried about how tired he looked in the u19 game. Another 2 games in 7 days which I'm assuming he will play in. Boy looks as if he needs a rest.

He’s had a lot of football this year and I think this should be managed slightly better. I personally think Kettlewell should have been informing him to not get involved in these u19 games as they will not benefit him in the slightest. Happy Dosser
I'm even more worried that he gets injured playing for Scotland U19. We can't afford him to be out for a run of games.
David
It's absolutely wild that he's still being picked for the under-19's in my opinion. No doubt the very minute he makes a move elsewhere he'll be right into that senior international side.

Quote "It was him that wanted to play in those games which I think is testament to himself. He just wants to play football and get as many minutes in the tank as possible. And enjoy playing with his age group that he's grown up with and playing against and with over the years."

thewelllfan
I've got to be honest 5.3M with a sell on clause is good business but I'd rather we get about 6/7M upfront + a smaller sell on clause especially if he goes to Celtic cos I can only see his value dropping from there. He's an 18 year old kid who, apart from playing constantly, is now the captain and has incessant speculation on his future to contend with. The fact the SFA called him up to the 19s was ludicrous but the fact we didn't insist on his withdrawal was criminal...although I understand that the player would have the final say. 17 minutes ago, thewelllfan said: I've got to be honest 5.3M with a sell on clause is good business but I'd rather we get about 6/7M upfront + a smaller sell on clause especially if he goes to Celtic cos I can only see his value dropping from there. He's an outstanding 18 year old player playing in the SPL for a smallish provincial club...I'd love these figures to be accurate but I have my doubts that we'd be demanding that type of cash and that there will be clubs out there willing to pay it. Quick question...what's folks thoughts on the Turnbull v Miller debate? Who was the better player in a Motherwell jersey?

Miller is a better all round player, but I'd pick Turnbull every single time due to the goals and assists.

I reckon Miller's probably technically+ definitely physically better and more equipped to move up a few levels and really shine in the modern game- but I think you'd be mental to say that Turnbull didn't have a bigger impact on games week to week than Miller has had so far. To be fair I'm not even sure if Turnbull had made his debut by the age Miller is now?

If I was a little bit older then Mclair and McAllister would also be on the list. All bloody good players who each brought something special to FP. We signed Mclair from Aston Villa and Mcfadden from Hearts I think, they weren't academy products as such (from memory)

We seem to be the only team listed on his youth career from aged 15. But there is an article in the Daily Record saying that he had signed S-forms with Hearts but was training with us. In the interview Faddy says he was training at Motherwell from aged 12. So no idea what the actual situation was with Hearts?
joewarkfanclub
On the Turnbull v Miller debate. Turnbull certainly had more impact with his goals but he didnt debut until 18. Millers has already played 50 games at the same age so his ceiling is probably far higher.

weeyin
For me, Gary McAllister's still the standard for success in recent times.. After we set him on the road with his first winner's medal (Scottish First Division) he won the English First Division - before the EPL was invented - the FA Cup, the League Cup and, of course, was instrumental in helping Liverpool win the UEFA Cup.

Recent times? The guys the same age as me, left Motherwell in 1985, 39 years ago - reminds me of the time I was talking to my kids about the miners strike and said you must have covered this in modern studies and they said don’t be daft it’s more than 30 years ago - that’s done in history! Apart from that, he was definitely the best midfielder we’ve produced in my time watching Motherwell and that’s taking nothing away from DT and LM. 1
weeyin
Ian St John is my cut-off. Anything after his move to Liverpool = recent Anything prior to his move to Liverpool = before my time.
