weeyin
I know it's a slow news week thanks to the international break, but the amount of column inches being used to talk up Miller moving to the OF is ridiculous, even by West Coast media standards. EDIT: did I really say "West Coast" media standards? Been living here too long. I really meant "West of Scotland"

Look at it from a positive aspect though. It means he's being actively discussed in the media, and any actual serious contenders will be seeing the figures floated about and will know they likely have to at least match or more likely exceed them. I'm happy enough to see him get the headlines.
weeyin
That's true - it's just the assumption that it's the OF that will be his dream move that grates. Although I appreciate that is largely clickbait to engage their target readership.
dennyc
I would like to ask the journalists where they got 'Motherwell value LM at around £4m' from. Did anyone from the Club actually say that? Who? Or are they quoting that figure to ease the way for the Clubs they really care about. Smells like the push there was in the media to get John McGinn to Celtic at a bargain price. Hibs held out and eventually got a better price with better add ons from Aston Villa.

I've no doubt they heard someone from the club say they think Miller is worth more than Turnbull, so they just rounded up the fee we got for him to the next nearest million. You are giving the smsm far too much credit , they are too busy with their noses up the old firm arses to bother about the other clubs in this country. Virtually every football story they report on has an element relating to the old firm wether it's relevant or not.

thewelllfan
With January coming up. I'd be looking at moving a few on. Callahan needs moved on. Taveres needs sent back to Hibs. Koutrombis could do with a loan. I'd consider recalling Stuperavic who's scored a fair few on loan at Morton. But we do have lots of options in that position so some would have to make way for this to be viable. I'd be bringing a pacey RW in January as Kettlewell's prefered formation against the better teams is 5-4-1. Also do we have an idea when we'll be seeing Slattery and Nicholson again. I'd also be moving on/Returning 1 of Watt, Robinson, Ebiye or Vale we have to many attackers and could use the wage to bring an attacking midfielder that could help us get in the top 6. stv
Can I chip in with the train fare back to Hibs for Traveres and a six pack of Tennants to enjoy on the way there .
David
At this stage I'd likely look at moving on from Tavares and Vale. Robinson is someone else I'd maybe look to move on, but with a deal until May 2026 it may prove difficult. As for Tony Watt, I think there's a player in there. He just needs a run of games and probably a proper pre-season. I'd keep him around.

Punt Tavares/Watt, if someone wants to take Robinson off of our hands then that works out but I don't see that happening Vale I'd keep, he'd be good for a bit of energy and pace in the last 15/20 minutes in games. wellfan
Other than Stama, who deserves/needs a bit more time to get up to speed, as well as requires a formation designed to play to his strengths, I’d be looking for some wholesale changes in the January window, where feasible. Robinson - move on, not good enough Tavares - punt back to Hibs Vale - not worth the risk Moses - keep for chaos factor Maswanhise - lifetime contract Watt - give him a run of games, he can be useful Nicholson is also listed as a forward on the squad page, so I guess we need to factor him into these thoughts, although I see him more as an attacking midfielder. And then there’s the boys out on loan: Stupa, L. Ross, and Ferrie. I’d keep them all out on loan, particularly the latter as I just don’t think he’s got it at this level. Who are we bringing in? Any rumours? Which positions?

If Watt was the Watt we had a few years ago then i would agree, however Fat Tony has turned up and shown the square root of heehaw when hes been on. Bye bye...... Vale did enough for me last season to suggest 'when played in the correct position' he offers a good option. If he is nearing fitness i would keep him. If hes still some way away, then send him back. The issue is that Watt is likely to stay in this form as long as he only gets the occasional 15-20 minutes here and there, especially given he didn’t have much of a pre-season or any real match time before joining us. If we want to see the Tony Watt we had a few years ago, we need to play him regularly and allow him to find his rhythm and get match fit. What’s clear is that there’s a player in there. It all comes down to whether we’re prepared to give him the game time to rediscover that form.

By all accounts he caused dressing room strife & went backwards at Tannadice then turns up here like Jabba the hut. While i wasnt too keen on the way he left us, i would happilly overlook that if a player actually turned up here & put a shift in. Seeing none of that so for me, its a cheerio..... Kmcalpin
I'd certainly want to retain Vale. He's done quite well for us and he has much needed pace. That said he's been played out of position. Only one bad injury to date.

Kmcalpin
I think he was initially assessed as being out for about 12 weeks. No recent updates though.
joewarkfanclub
Id love Tony Watt to turn it around, prove his fitness and earn a contract with us and finish his career here. I just dont see it at the moment though. I get that he is unlikely to get fully match fit without significant gametime, but I had hoped to see some improvement in his cameos from the bench to show he deserved to start. That hasnt happened. He still has time. Id like to see him start up top with Stama, as I think both would benefit from having someone with football intelligence alongside them. For me, Vale is a safer bet once fit again. If he is out of contract at the end of the season, I think getting him on a permanent contract would be a no brainer.

What you’ve said about Watt reflects what I’ve said above about him and Stama. They need to be played as part(s) of a formation that suits their game(s), either together or individually. As you say, it would be good to see them up top together.

Aye, I agree with trying that at some point, but I'd say you can't drop Maswanhise given his form. So would either need a change of formation (which we all know Kettlewell won't do) or playing one of them out of position. Would Watt at 10 behind Stama/Maswanhise... that bad? The Maswanhise issue is a good problem to have, but you’re right that Kettlewell won’t change his formation to get Maswanhise, Stama and Watt in the same starting 11, unfortunately.
