I understand his/her reasoning and would do exactly the same. Checking out some of the obvious possible sources, I've come up with 2 names Craig Sibbald and Joe Newell. Sibbald is relatively small at 5-7 and so I'll plump for Newell. The news that SK is is looking to strengthen this position is very encouraging. We need at least 2 new signings next month. Fuck Me , Sibbald should be a no based purely on that cunt of a haircut alone..

Ive not enjoyed watching Miller the same way I enjoyed watching Turnbull, albeit Miller probably has a higher ceiling now. I think its due to the circumstances you describe. Turnbull was the right player at the right time. With Miller, we can see he is a generational talent and needs to play. But I dont think we have got the best out of him or the team. Its why I hope we are able to keep him to the summer. With the players that are going to become available between now and end of season, I think he will be able to showcase his talents more fully. We are wasting him with our style of play, he'd be better off going.
Mccus28
So out of contract players who can sign a pre contract for someone in Jan are:- Paul Mcginn Aston Oxborough Shane Blaney Ross Callachan Dan Casey Moses Ebiye Harry Paton Callum Slattery Davor Zdravkovski Who if any would you try to extend their stay? For me, Mcginn, Casey, Ox should be kept. Callachan has been a total waste of a wage!!!!!

Kmcalpin
Mcginn - + 1 year option (not sure on whose side) Ox - signed until at least 2027 Blaney OOC don't renew. Callachan OOC don't renew. Casey OOC renew on same or slightly reduced terms Ebiye OOC don't renew Paton OOC definitely renew Slattery OOC ? assess next 6 months Davor OOC don't renew The Ox is not an issue as San says. Of the others, I'd only really want to retain Harry Paton.

In the 17 league matches Callum Slattery missed last season, Miller played in 16 of them and we won 6 of them. That's out of 10 league wins last season. I think that kind of sums up what either player brings to the table and how essential they are.

Mad Dog
Callaghan can go right now. I'd offer extentions to McGinn, Casey, Ox, Ebiye and Paton. Slattery should be given the chance to earn an extention. Davor has done well at times but I'd like to think that we can find a more effective defensive midfielder. I'd also offer Watt a contract and see if he's willing to take a pay cut to come back. The other loans can go home.
wellfan
Is Maswanhise only on a short-term deal until January or was that extended and I've missed it? If not, he should be offered an 18-month deal, at least, come January.
wellfan
I think we will/should offer terms to McGinn (another year), Paton (2-years), Casey (2-years), Slattery (short-term deal) and Watt (1-year). And JT, as I said above.

texanwellfan
Warning!!! Happy clapper alert!! I think SK has taken a lot of stick over his signings but for me I think we have a pretty decent squad. experience with O’Donnell Halliday and McGinn Gordon and Casey pretty decent at the back with Ox in goal. All are not perfect but pretty solid door the most part players Like Paton, Sparrow, Seddon, Nicholson added to Miller and Wilson TJ and Stam coming along nicely with Moses in there who has chimed In with some important goals loan players like Watt and Kaletta probably as good a squad as we’ve had in some time. 1

Agree with that but i just wish the manager had more confidence in his squad to allow them to play an attacking formation more often, as in the first half yesterday. Saying that we are in a more than satisfactory position in the league playing the way we have been. Keep on clapping. 👏 👏

The more you look at the squad the more it appears that they are better suited to an attacking style of play. Of course we can’t just abandon defensive side of things but I’d say we should be working towards a more attacking approach to majority of games

There's also a strong possibility that he doesn't play well with some combination of Gordon, Balmer and Blaney. Our central defence clearly needs sorting out and although McGinn's return may help its not the complete answer.

I think the answer lies in moving to a back 4 with 1 or 2 defensive pivot-type midfielders sitting in front of them. Perhaps a 4-2-3-1, although I doubt Kettlewell will ever move away from the 3 central defenders approach.
weeyin
Casey's agression and attitude tend to distract from his lack of defending fundamentals. He was a key part of last year's defensive atrocities and, especially when starting with Blaney, is a guarantee we won't have a clean sheet. He is an asset when we have the ball, and great at causing disruption in the opponent's box. Below average when we don't have the ball, or when he's defending in our box. We've started to slip into our old habit of losing soft goals, and that needs to be addressed with some changes in the back 3.

I think too, that Ewan Wilson is more suited to a back 4, as mentioned by Cameron on P & B.

We started the season looking much better in defence and that was McGinn Gordon Casey since we haven’t been able to play that combination our defence went back to old ways, as you mentioned. Hopefully we can go back to this combination soon and we will find out if it was coincidence or if that is the “winning” combination.
