Cameron_Mcd
Did Casey not hold out for a while when he re-signed for a bigger contract. Admittedly it's total speculation but if he's on decent money I'd wouldn't mind letting Casey go. He's by no means useless but Casey has been a regular in a defence that's shipped goals for fun. I agree, I think casey gets a free ride at times. I like him but he can be a bit of a bombscare
wellgirl
Casey has been a stalwart as far as I'm concerned. And I believe Slattery has another year option on his contract. Baffles me why anyone would want to let Casey go.

I wouldn't simply let him go at the end of the his contract but I wouldn't go out of the way to re-sign him either. A few posts above will perhaps explain why some feel this way, if you're puzzled as to why some, including me, think as we do. For me, Weeyin's post sums up my views, better than I could express them. Yes, Callum Slattery's deal is up next summer and there is a year's option (we don't know the details of that though). joewarkfanclub
I like Casey. He has a lot of attributes. But he IS prone to concentration lapses and that HAS cost us goals in the past. I thought he was doing much better at the start of the season in the LCB position alongside Gordon and McGinn and it would be good to see how he gets on back there when McGinn is fit. I also dont mind Blaney. He is probably better with the ball at his feet, but again concentration is his problem. He often loses his man and has cost us goals. Probably why the narrative of Blaney and Casey not playing together has arisen from as they are both prone to these mistakes so going a full game without either of them making one is statistically unlikely. For me, any assessment on whether we keep a player or move them on should be based on whether there is a better player available. Moving on Bevis and Butcher last season for Gordon and Balmer was probably the right decision. Similar discussions will be had again this season. Spit_It_Out
Couple of wingers,Someone that can tackle in midfield and a big hefty bastard to play up front with Stam or Tawanda to win the hoofball header tactics. Wingers never going to happen but have hope for the other two lol.

There will always be better players out there than the ones we’ve got, but the real question is whether we can afford them and if they’re actually interested in joining us or have other options. It also comes down to whether the manager and coaching staff believe there’s potential to improve and address the issues a player might have. Let’s be honest—finding a player who makes virtually no mistakes is extremely rare. If someone was consistently performing at that level, they’d probably be well beyond what we can afford. In the case of someone like Casey, we need to ask ourselves whether he’s consistently making errors and misjudging situations, or if he’s doing what’s expected and delivering at a level suitable for a club like ours. Can the mistakes he’s making be addressed through coaching? Is there room for him to grow and improve?

There was a spell last season when he was absolutely terrible. Still one of our best three centre backs though. As someone else said McGinn, Gordon, Casey is our best back three and we've not been able to field them.
