I agree it's not all bad luck re injuries - some are but not all. 

Players in their 30s as an example - it's more likely that the body will get stresses/strains. 
Players who have often had injuries - likely to continue. 

Given what we knew about players it was reasonable to expect SOD, McGinn, Blanley, Slattery, Halliday , Paton, Callaghan, Nicholson, Vale all to pick something up.   That's 9 of our squad with previous issues.

SOD comes across as really good guy but for me he's inconsistent.  Defensively he switches off, lacks concentration and costs us goals.  

Several managers dropped him for long periods of time due to this.  He was decent moving forward 2-3 years ago but this has become less a feature of his game. 

Ok as a squad player /sub but not a starter for me. Similar to likes of Mugabi & Lamie who do 90% right but pretty much every game switch off at the wrong time.

Yup, I like SOD and feel sorry as he does get a lot of stick, but does make terrible blunders ( jambos and Hibees).    Need fans to rally round him as is a total confidence player

Yes. we've had horrendous luck and few would take issue with that. However, quite a few of our signings have been in the high risk category due to their injury records. Moving forward, thats something that needs looked at by our recruitement team. We're probably already well down the road of our summer plans.

Prime example is Callachan should have never in a million years been given a contract those kinda signings just don't cut it asking for trouble.

Aye bringing in callachan had disaster written all over it.i get players can get injured at anytime but we really have backed ourselves into a corner with some of our signings of late,we need to be avoiding players with dodgy injury records no matter how cheap and easy the deal is to get done.

Kettlewell said last season that he looks at players that might have had a flawed season with say Injuries or playing time and such well I hope he drops the injuries side of that cause this season is an eye opener on the injury front.

Can't keep signing players in the hope they might be fit never mind actually get them on the park

Our strategy should be reasonably straight forward 
 

• Balance of squad ,  defenders/midfield/attack.  
• young homegrown talent - who would be better than we can afford and ideally sell them on.
• 24/25 year  - who didn't make it with bigger club and need a chance. 
• average Joe- established pros who we can afford. 
• seasoned pros - who're past their best and stepping down to our level to help improve out youngsters  
• loan signings - compliment your squad/short term gaps. 

It's about balance - these all need to be balanced out.  Recent years we've lost basics of not enough mix of players for positions and for me too many risk players with injuries.   eg more strikers now than midfielders !

Add to that there's several players who don't even seem to make it to testing them out - guys from NZ, Japan, Australia , Stupavic etc - complete lack of due diligence. 

Bottom line. I'm far from convinced we have a good recruitment team.

Feel we watched a different Lamie if you think he did 90% right he was a bombscare

I think Casey has his critics too - and I think SOD gets a disproportionate amount of criticism compared to some other players - even when he's playing well

Dundee's Jordan McGhee has agreed a pre-contract deal to join Motherwell this summer.

The Fir Park side, who have a number of key players out injured, could explore bringing the versatile 28-year-old to the club this month.

The former Hearts and Falkirk player, who is out of contract at the end of the season, has spent more than five years at Dens Park, making more than 180 appearances and winning top-flight promotion twice.

McGhee, who can play in defence and midfield, is currently out with a hamstring issue but is expected to return soon, meaning a potential January arrival could ease Stuart Kettlewell's injury concerns.

The Well manager confirmed on Thursday that captain Paul McGinn and left-back Steve Seddon are among several players facing spells out, which also includes influential midfielder Lennon Miller.

Kettlewell, who has already brought in young midfielder Kai Andrews and goalkeeper Archie Mair on loan this window, says the club are "working endlessly" as they aim to "strengthen the group".

"But I can't really put a timescale on that," he added prior to his side's Scottish Cup trip to St Johnstone on Saturday.

"What I can finish off by saying is the club have been supportive".

Dundee, who face city rivals Dundee United in their fourth-round tie on Monday, have strengthened their squad this month by acquiring defensive duo Aaron Donnelly and Ilmari Samuels, plus midfielder Cesar Garza.

On further potential transfer business, Dens Park boss Tony Docherty says he is "hoping there might be movement on one other".

We might not have consistency on the park, but we do in our signing policy, McGhee should fit in nicely.

I’ve never paid much attention to him before, but looking at his recent stats, am I overlooking something? He played 37 matches last season, 36 the season prior, and 41 the season before that. Is he typically seen as an injury risk?

The thing is though if he signs in the transfer window I bet he doesn't last the rest of the season.

Hamstring injury been out for a few weeks pinning yer hopes on him to be fit would be utterly mental.

Hope we just leave him until the summer for now.

Dundee fans generally seem to be gutted about losing McGhee and they think that he’ll likely join us this window rather than in the summer.

Looks like a good signing - I certainly don't think someone having an injury means they are injury prone - it's the nature of the game. Hopefully he will join sooner rather than later

He seems to have played 30+ games most seasons, so not injury prone (until we get hold of him at least).
