With it being the last game of the season on Sunday it got me thinking about last games of the season in years gone past

This one came to mind in May 2000,  not seen much footage of it since  and taken from a Rangers youtube channel

For our younger fans who do not remember this game we played Rangers off the park on this day, then the fans invaded the park at the end of the game.  A bit like the play-offs you could say

It was a great game, I remember it well. It was gutting that we just missed out on Europe after such a great result, the Rangers had only lost one other league game that season. We had beaten Celtic both at home and away as well but we had some poor results along the way which ultimately cost us in the end.

Blair Spittal thanks for the memories

Spittal proved to be a great signing and this season particularly was at the heart of everything that was positive.   Watching the clips highlights how many assists he got.  He's going to be very hard to replace .

It’s 1989 and we got him

Sale of the Century!

Pretty apt we played in Matchwinner kit at that time!

Id forgotten he had been in the squad for the Norway game. I had it in my head that he got recalled for the provisional squad that went to Genoa for a PR trip and then got injured before the finals.

I do remember Jock Brown asking him in a post match interview about Scotland and him saying his Scotland days were over.

Glad he was wrong. Even if he didnt get to the World Cup.

some liked this kit

At the time I wasn’t a massive fan , as I much preferred the 94-96 home kit

Looking back I think it looks better now than it did then

What a game that was , one of the highlights of that season

I've told this story many times, I was working at FP the day he signed, testing the fire alarm, I was sure I had disconnected all the sounders, however missed the one along the corridor where Lama Tomtom's office was, after a bit he bursts into the tunnel face beaming red, 'I'm in there trying to sign a player and can't hear myself over the racket you're making!' 'Who are we signing?' I shout back, 'Davie Cooper' he replies. 'Aye right!' I shout back, 20 minutes later the deal is done.

Not quite as interesting, but I remember the chat at the time was Cooper was Tynecastle bound. I had picked up an Evening Times to read on the train coming back from Glasgow and there was a headline about a new signing for us and I thought "I wonder if the wee man manged to sign his old Rangers mate"

Probably didn't hurt that Bobby Russell was already playing for us too.

Bobby Russell was on the radio last week, punting his new book. Said he had the choice of MacDonald & Jardine at Hearts or McLean & Forsyth with us when Rangers wanted rid of him, and he was heading to Tynecastle before the deal fell through. Apparently, both clubs offered him the same money.

Loved watching Russell and Cooper.

They had the same telepathy Graham and Pettigrew had.

Made it all look so easy.

Russell had an uncanny knack of knowing where the ball was going to end up. He'd watch two players challenge each other in a tackle or header and 9 times out of 10 the ball would break to exactly where he was standing.

Not bad at finding a pass either.
