Old Firm fans don't go in that area.

If they are getting corralled in the area where the seats don't even have backs then they should be the cheapest seats in the ground.

As i said in the original post, they go in the south stand as do 99% of the away fans, the only reason the RC fans are in the side of the POD is because it's not worth opening the south stand for such small numbers. Although they do seem to take a random approach to it as the Edinburgh city fans were in the top tier for the league cup game.

They were put up there because of the  reputation of their wee Ultras who got a friendly abandoned the previous week.

I think reducing the prices for away fans would go a long way to improving attendances and increasing revenues.

There is probably more scope for increasing attendances doing that than trying to get more home fans.

Although it comes with a disadvantage if Hibs, Hearts and Aberdeen fans are outnumbering us at home.

but let's also remember that Paisley is a much bigger town than Motherwell.

Two very different areas and in its strictest sense we're comparing apples and oranges. In the main, Paisley is a single large town, whereas Motherwell isn't. Its a large combined urban area comprising several towns and villages a bit like Levenmouth or Stoke. Add in the likes of Wishaw, Netherton, Craigneuk, Newmains, Cambusnethan, Carfin, Newarthill, and New Stevenston and the picture changes somewhat.

You can do the same with Paisley by including places like Linwood, Renfrew, Elderslie, Kilbarchan, Johnstone, Barrhead etc.

The closest professional club is always going to attract supporters from outlying areas.

This topic has shown we all have opinions on reasons for non attendance so i thought I would add my tuppence worth. i am 86 years old, both myself and partner have heart issues, she is also confined to wheelchair so carer has to be available in emergency. It also means that most home tasks are mine. home for me is a 70 mile round trip to Fir Park yet at the beginning of the season I look forward to going to the football and keen to go the League Cup games. Elgin, Annan, Dumfries. Montrose just a few examples. Grounds I have never been to must be the attraction. I can drive but refrain from driving 100+ miles twice on the same day so I stay overnight or week end. i have supported Well for 75 of my 86 years and during that time I have seen some great football, ie Ancell Babes (still didn't win anything). What switches me off is the mostly crap football on show under GA and SK. Partick and RC displays have already questioned my enthusiasm for the Hearts game.

Rant over

I get that its a matter of definition but we could also include Bellshill, Carluke, Law, Shotts, Overtown, Holytown, Lanark, Allanton, Cleland. and the likes. I must do a comparison.

We are not The Pride of Lanarkshire for nothing! 😍😍😍

I wonder if St Mirren consider themselves to be The Pride of Renfrewshire? 😆😆😆

You can probably forget about Cleland.

I've done a quick population comparison. The wider Paisley area, including Erskine, has a total population of about 192,000 whereas the Motherwell area has a population of about 190,000 (excluding Hamilton & East Kilbride etc).  Precise comparisons are subjective and difficult. In essence both conurbations have pretty much the same population.

St Johnstone v Aberdeen is sold out tonight for a game live on TV. I accept its Geoff Browns hand over game but that's and outstanding achievement for a league game.

edit

St Johnstone Media Team obviously talking shite looks like plenty seats though still a decent attendance.

Looks like Aberdeen fans are outnumbering the home fans, which isn’t really a surprise.

you have specific reasons for not attending and no one could criticise you for it. However the demographic of supporters for most teams will be pretty much the same however other non OF clubs seem to see a bounce in numbers when doing well we don't. Falkirk are likely going to have bigger home supports than us in the Championship. I find our piss poor support really depressing, I wish I knew why we cant get our numbers up.

StJohnstone fans receiving plaudits from the BBC for creating a great atmosphere (letting off flares and smoke bombs). Blue smoke is great but claret and Amber smoke should be stopped.
