Doesn't tip the balance in our favour but it certainly improves our chances even if it's just him coming off the bench to defend a lead or take a penalty after drawing the game.

He missed a penalty against St.Mirren in the shootout after that 4-4 horror night just before lockdown in early 2020. I genuinely don’t think any Motherwell player can be trusted to score a penalty in a shootout when it really matters*. But even then, is he absolutely clear to play in this game? I’m not so sure.

*I know Colin O’Neill scored a crucial match winning penalty against Morton before they were even called ‘Greenock Morton’ 33 years ago

I've got no idea why, but I came rushing home to watch this tonight.......

I think it's only the past year or so that these rounds were moved to the weekend.

We got punted to a 6 or 6.30pm ko against Sellick on a Wednesday nicht not so long ago for TV.

The support needs to be up for this and park any frustrations we may have surrounding the manager, signings and injuries.

The cup is important to us financially and we have a home tie against a beatable opponent with similar resources to ourselves.

Lets get behind the team and leave any recriminations until the game is over.

Did we win?

Nah, lost two nil and Watt got injured. Looks like he'll be out a while. (He signed a 3 year deal just before kick off)

With the arrival of Watt and our squad being decimated, it's formation tombola time for the Killie game. Any guesses?

Im guessing it will be a 5-4-1 of some description. The only guess will be if Watt is fit enough to start and if so how the 4 are organised.

Heygi might get a start in the Cup just to keep him and his parent club happy. Personally Id stick with the Ox.

                             Ox

         McGinn Gordon Casey

SOD                                        Seddon

                Davor    Miller

          Watt                   Wilson

                   Robinson

There is an argument for starting Halliday instead of Davor or Watt, possibly Wilson, but Im still not sure what he brings over and above his experience. Id keep him on the bench in case we need to close the game out or Davor gets injured / runs outta steam.

Personally, Id like to see young Wells in one of the advanced midfield roles with Watt and try and play on the front foot. But SK is probably too conservative to do that.

For me, if Watt's starting, he needs to be up top. I'm not a fan of putting strikers in "advanced midfield" positions.

To be honest, it doesn't matter whether he appears as a striker or a midfielder on the team lineup. His job is going to be to link the midfield to the forwards...

My point is he should be "the forwards" (or one of) and our midfielders should be linking with him.

His main job should be receiving the ball inside the box and scoring goals.

I dont disagree, but the majority of our midfield is injured.

If you play Watt as an advanced midfielder he can link the play and let Miller get back to doing what he does best.

That is true given our current circumstances.

Peter Martin is a stirrer, it was he who said Watt was a troubled soul, not Kettlewell, he said that was a bit harsh.

That was a terrible comment and someone really should say sorry for that because Tony was told Kettlewell said it

Personally Id love us to ditch the 5 at the back and move to a 4-3-3 or a 4-2-3-1 or similar.

But Ketts seems wedded to it for some reason.

Hopefully our suffering will be short lived and we get some of our injured players back quicker than expected.
