That's the biggest difference.

The fact that he was involved with Scotland seemed to blind a lot of people to the fact that Kelly was the worst goalie in the league by a fair distance last season. Some of the stuff he was doing was absolutely mental and teams were aware of how much of a liability he was and targeted him. Big Aston should have been given a chance much earlier.

He might have had his faults, but Kelly wasn't responsible fot Butcher, Blaney, Casey and Mugabi losing their man multiple times per game.

Also no coincidence it was a poor header from Casey that gave Spittal his chance in the first half.

He was literally the worst. Second lowest save percentage and a complete disaster at set pieces.

We still need to see more of the Ox but hes made a solid start. It does make you scratch your head that he never got a chance last year when kelly was throwing them in every few weeks

Because Kelly was the highest paid in the squad and captain so was undroppable . When you think about it his exploits with crosses last season were it was embarrassing. Hope he plays a good few games in the first team for his new club.

Just from watching the highlights there......Tom Sparrow could have sat on his heels and we don't get that crucial third goal.

I think he's done really well to follow up that mistake from Salazar cos a lot of players wouldn't have bothered and nothing comes out of it.

That's a good example of the kind of things that you need to do in a game to get three points.

Hopefully we can show that commitment more often.

That was a hugely enjoyable game today. There were no failures in a Motherwell Jersey, with SOD and Wilson both being excellent. The defence looked very comfortable for most of the game. Our set pieces were very dangerous thanks to Miller's  first class deliveries. On the whole a thoroughly deserved 3 points.

I thought that we started very slowly, allowing Hearts far too much time and space, but after the initial 15 minutes we seemed to up the tempo, create a few things and gain the confidence that allowed the team to drive on to a deserved first half lead.

A great, high energy start to the second half earned us a very much deserved 2-0 lead. At this point, we could have gone on and seriously damaged Hearts, but we lost a bit of discipline and shape. The team seemed to get caught up in the emotion and excitement being generated in the stands. I think that is what led to the loss of the goal as players chased the opposition in areas of the park that they should not have been dragged into.

The loss of the goal led to a bit of a wobble, but I felt that we had settled again just as SK decided to take Robinson and Maswanhise off for Seddon and Sparrow. I felt that this was too negative a change that was intended to shore up the midfield and defence to try to see out the game at 2-1. A tactic that hasn't worked well for us in the past.

However, thanks to Salazar, we'll never know whether we would have held out as Tom Sparow did very well to get on to his short backpass and make the game safe at 3-1.

A thoroughly enjoyable Sunday afternoon.

Yes, Sparrow was fully committed in the lead up to it also.

My uncle died 6 months before we won the cup in 91. It's hard. He would have loved it. I wish he had lived to see it.

He took me to Scotland games before I went to Motherwell games

Sorry for your loss.

Really enjoyed that today!

Thought we started slowly and Hearts dominated the ball to begin with, albeit we created the 2 best chances in the first 20 minutes. After that I thought we were the better team and throughly deserved to be in front at the break.

Second have was great right up until we scored the second goal, then we seemed to take a step back teying ro protect the lead and invited Hearts back onto us. Thankfully their goal seemed to spur us on and the absolute desire feom the players to make sure we got the 3 points was a joy to watch, encapsulated by Sparrows efforts at the 3rd goal.

Not the perfect performance today, still plenty of room for improvement, but that effort and will to win can go a long way.

No failures today at all but big mentions for young Wilson who was superb and Andy Halliday who had his best game so far.  MOTM for me was SOD though. His best performance in a Motherwell jersey by far. He seems to be flourishing having a manager who finally trusts him and has taken responsibility for his leadership position. Was so good to see him get his goal today. Thoroughly deserved.

I think SOD is a very underrated player who plays his heart out for Motherwell. I know he's had his wobbles along the way but he's always been a decent footballer in my view

SOD got brilliant standing ovation from east stand late on in game.  So deserved

I think his problem is that everyone judged him on his Kilmarnock and Scotland performances and we have never really got to see that for us as he has played for a few managers whose style of football didnt really suit him.

Obviously being ostracised by GA didnt help but we are finally getting to see the player we all anticipated we were getting 3 years ago!

If he keeps his levels up, I dont imagine we will be seeing much of Marvellous Marvin!

He's a great guy as well. A couple of years ago when I was at the calender signing he spent so much time with the kids - I've always had a huge soft spot for him and I'm glad he's finding form. There's always been a v good player in there - confidence really I think

Brilliant performance and to the well Bois, ye missed a great game today.  And to those that said Hearts were honking.....yes they were but lets focus on us and laugh at irritating character Naismith.

I thought application and attitude today was immense,  had wee wobble at 2-1 but apart from that a great team effort.   There is far too much negativity after a loss so when we win it deserves praise.  SOD and Halliday are whipping boys but with excellent today as were all the lads.

This is why we love being well fans

Up the Well :fan:

He's never been as bad as some of our boo boys would have you believe. He went through some sticky patches but he always gives 100% and frankly deserves credit for sticking with it when some might have stuck two fingers up when he got pelters.

Great result and performance today. Well done to SK, SF and the players. It was a real team performance., Apart from a 15 minute spell when Hearts scored and we retreated timidly into our shell we pretty much dominated the game. In truth we could have scored 3 more on merit.

Our defence has certainly stiffened up due in no small part to the Ox and Liam Gordon. I thought that Gordon, O'Donnell, Wilson, Halliday, Maswanhise and Watt were slightly above the others. Wilson is looking good. The single striker up front still isn't working properly though, with Robinson being outnumbered and left isolated.  Oddly Halliday really seemed fired up; no doubt stemming from some baggage from his time in the capital. Maswanhise  really looked the part and once fully fit should be a real asset.  I thought Tony Watt too added some nous and experience. He can certainly hold the ball up and distract defenders. His run the length of a half taking 3 defenders with him and occupying them in the corner in the latter stages was something to behold. Let bygones be bygones  - welcome back Tony.

Now starting to feel more optimistic and it'll be interesting when our injured players return to active duty. Intriguing also if we sign anohter body or two before the deadline.

A great day to be a Well fan.
