MFCL84
A great result. Three points very welcome. I'm very happy with the way the league is shaping up. Well done to the team and management on getting the hard earned points. However, I'm not going to get carried away, the general level of team performance was very poor. No team can continue winning games when they give up so much territory, give the opposition so many chances and lose possession so easily. The stats today show that we managed only 37% possession. We must get better at ball retention or there won't be too many games where we get the 3 points.

It is, so far, but I have some sympathy with him as I always felt we pushed him out the door when the silly money offer came in. At that point I don't think he was making noises about wanting to leave.

Ya Bezzer!
Thought we probably deserved the three points even though most of the 2nd half we were fairly deep. Goal we lost was extremely sloppy. Looked to me like Davor just wasn't paying attention, we lose the ball and then from that passage of play we lose a goal. It was especially annoying as St Mirren hadn't really look very good up to that point and we give a goal away that shouldn't have happened and a big confidence boost to the opposition. Fortunately we got the penalty fairly quickly after that. Didn't see it myself but I was told it was a pull. Don't think I've felt as confident with Lennon Miller stepping up to take a penalty since the days of Tommy Coyne. Predictably the keeper was no where near it. After that I felt we were the better team for the rest of the first half. Second started with a bit of a disaster, not really switched on, give away the penalty and a red card. Don't think there is much argument over the decision. Think Ox got a touch to it to get it off the post. That was huge for us as it would have been a very different game if it'd been 2-2 and a man down. Rest of the match St Mirren were on the front foot but we defended well enough and had the best chance of the match with the St Mirren keeper making what looked from the other end of the ground as an amazing save. Though Liam Gordon was excellent today. Wilson looks like an established first team player and Lennon Miller was fantastic and had a couple of good chances to get a hat trick today which would have been a moment. Unfortunate that Ebiye got a start today but then had to come off so early due to the red card.

Just look at David Turnbull who's really struggled after two serious injuries.

Second half I thought we were poor but St Mirren have mugged us often enough in the past that it was our turn. The real difference this year is a solid defence and a keeper who commands his box. Possession means fuck all if you do nothing with it and St Mirren just relied on the high ball all day from the possession they had, they wasted theirs we didn't. weeyin
Miller's goal was handball and Tanser should never have been sent off for that tackle. However, given the number of terrible decisions against us last season for similar situations, I'm more than happy to take it - and after St Mirren missed their pen I thought we looked the more likely to score. grizzlyg
Not seen highlights so can't comment on any controversial decisions but I guarantee we will be in wrong end at some point so feck them. As far as I am concerned we are 4th so let's not nick pick about performance and celebrate the win. Ox makes huge difference in goals and I think Stama will be a big player. joewarkfanclub
Not our best performance today. But I felt it was solid enough first half and we were handling St Mirrens size and tactics fairly well right up until their goal. Id like to see it again to see if there were things we could have done better, but it was a lovely turn and finish from Phillips. Thought we did well to get back in it after that. Couldnt really see if it was a penalty or not. There seemed to be a tangle of bodies at the back post but couldnt really see if the claim was justified. Great finish from Miller to put it away and he took his second one well also. Second half, the game seemed to to unravel for the referee in a Collumesque kinda way. There were a number of rather bizarre decisions and bookings and the players did well not to allow things to boil over. Thought after it went to 10 aside we crafted the better of the chances and Miller and Stamatelopoulos could both have had us out of sight. Overall, a good 3 points aginst a tough opponent. Onwards and upwards to Easter Road next week......

The fact that Tanser targeted SODs shoulder - dirty player. We've had plenty of decisions go against us over the piece

Welly Machine
Tanser's second yellow maybe a bit soft but feels like a bit of poetic justice for same fixture at Fir Park just over a year ago, when he scored the only goal. We absolutely dominated them and still somehow lost. Despite maybe getting away with one for Miller's second, I actually thought we shaded it. Defended fairly comfortably and thought we had the better chances in the second half.
Kmcalpin
What was today's attendance? I was expecting the Buddies to bring a far larger support with them given the massive crowds they've been attracting in Paisley. I thought they'd fill the upper tier and part of the bottom about 2,800-3,000 in total.
grumpy
I thought we thoroughly deserved three points today, we created, by far, the better chances and, for all St. Mirrens possession, they never really looked like scoring after the penalty save. Tanser may feel hard done by in terms of when the second yellow was issued, but he got away with quite a lot between the two yellows without a word from a very poor referee. Oxborough was my MOM, his save in first half injury time was unbelievable (disgracefully not shown in the BBC highlights) and the penalty save was top class too. Miller is outstanding and Wilson may earn us a few quid too if he keeps developing at this rate. Ap Stam looked good when he came on, I have high hopes for him. As for St. M's feeling of injustice with some of the decisions..........get it right up them. 😄

Yet both were reviewed by VAR and given?? The 2nd yellow not as obvious but he was talking to someone on his mic before dishing out the card so I'm assuming it was the VAR team or at the very least the linesman to confirm his decision. They got Miller's wrong from the angles I saw, but that's not unusual for VAR. If they are more likely to support the refs' initial calls this season then more power to them - I'm certainly not complaining we got away with one. texanwellfan
I’m pretty sure the ball hit Millers arm so is there new guidance this season that fouls are only for deliberate handball And not incidental?
texanwellfan
Balmer‘S long throw ins are an asset, and not just in the opponents area but getting the ball well up the park from defence.

Added the caveat about the 2nd yellow after my initial post so don't know if you replied before you saw it but he was definitely talking to someone before dishing it out. As you say I'm not complaining and it makes a pleasant change to see decisions going for us.
