The Ox.

Commanded his area, made skme great saves and came for cross balls the likes I havent seen since the big dutch pornstar strutted his stuff down Fir Park Way!

I agree Ox has been excellent and also agree Kelly was poor last season.

There's a bit of revisionism going on though. Our entire defence was a bomb scare for all of last season - not just Kelly - and who knows how Ox would have coped with that.

Also easy to forget that during Kelly's original 6 month loan spell he was so good he was was voted players' player of the year, despite only playing half a season. At that point most of us wanted him back, and when he returned the next season he was a top performer.

Having said all that, I'm delighted that Ox is performing even better that we could have hoped. We definitely got the best side of that deal.

I dont necessarily disagree with that. Gordon is probably as big a part of our assuredness at the back this season as the Ox. He, Casey and now Balmer have looked really solid and allowed McGinn to just go and do what McGinn does.

However, I would say Ox does seem to bring a calmness to the back line. Theres no more screaming, shouting and hissy fits. His distribution is demonstrably better (Ive yet to see him kick it straight out the park for a throw) and just coming to catch easy cross balls takes so much pressure off the defence.

I think we just held onto Kelly a season too long. I think if a club had come in for him last close season and he had moved on with our good wishes, the view of his tenure would have been a lot different.

I didn’t make the game yesterday, but it’s pleasing to hear about the individual performances and the manner in which we won.

Maybe, just maybe, Kettlewell’s policy of signing 400 players is paying off at the moment.

Aye but he went completely off the boil from about the time of that game at Tynecastle when Clarke was there to watch him and it felt like he had a serious chance of picking up caps but he seriously shat the bed. He had good games here and there after that but never a good run of form.
