Bad news for McGinn.

He was having a pretty good season.

Its amazing though how many times things happen when SK has a big decision to make.

Of course he could opt to tuck SOD in one and play Kaleta at RWB, but I think Balmer, Gordon, Casey looks a formidable back line.

Our set piece threat is becoming ridiculous!

McGinn is the newest injury. A "good period of time" according to Kettlewell. I quite like the look of a Balmer, Gordon, Casey back three.

No doubt we'll be conducting our 718th detailed review into why we injure so many of our players during an international break.

McGinn's 34 next week. He's played the 90 in every game since he came back from his injury. We are usually out of possession which is more physically demanding and our system also relies on McGinn stepping into midfield when we do have the ball. It's not a surprise that he's ended up injured.

Miller's played a lot of minutes this season for his age. He might need rested soon as well.

If that was true, then resting tired players during a 2 week international break might help.

However, it doesn't take a Beautiful Mind to see the pattern of how many players we've injured during international breaks, winter breaks and  pre-season these past few years to see it's an issue.

Also, playing 8 games over 13 weeks at the start of season should be quite manageable even for a 34 year old.

However, if players like McGinn and Miller are at risk, then we should be rotating them sooner, not crocking them in training sessions.

I think it's about the changes that he won't make but I'd like to see

Sparrow on for Halliday/Zdrakovski
Kaleta on for O'Donnell
Watt on for Robinson

I'd be really happy with that team.

As an important aside
This is the first time he has to cut a first team player from the bench with Casey returning. Someone is going to be unhappy.

Scrap what I said.
Always a new player injured, making space for everyone!

Yep, this could be decent going forward, but if one of them gets injured, then what?

SODs moves across to RCB and Kaleta or Johnny K to RWB.

Or Blaney comes in as a direct replacement.

It's nice having squad depth, innit?

Aye, but the 3rd/4th choice backline gives me the fear. Let's hope Gordon stays fit.

It was fine earlier in the season and you could argue that Kaleta and Koutroumbis especially deserve time to prove themselves. Granted, Gordon has been an ever-present just about.

I made the point on P&B earlier today that I don't quite get the unease around Blaney; I think he's more than capable of doing a job and has always done all that's asked of him. e.g. he was absolutely outstanding at Ibrox last year and then was just... dropped. I don't think he'll ever amount to more than a stand-in as and when required but he's... fine. We're always going to have a drop off in quality eventually but right now, we don't.

Not sure what some folks are expecting of the club / manager re squad depth. Particularly when they are being criticised in certain quarters for having a bloated squad once everyone is fit again?

We have perfectly ample coverage at the back for all eventualities. Yes there will be a drop off in standard the further down the pecking order we have to go, but thats true of any club.

My only concern so far this season has been midfield. But we are getting by there and could change it up by introducing Sparrow from the start or pushing Ewen Wilson into midfield with Seddon at the back.

Slattery is Christmas for full contact/training and I think matches from January. Not sure about the others.

November according to Kettlewell earlier in the year for matches

11 of Dundee's 13 matches this season have been 2.5 goals or over.

If you just count league matches of the 14 matches Dundee and Motherwell have played, 12 of them have been 2.5 goals or over.

Might be a bad day to be a goal net.

The team picks itself today apart from the strikers. I'd like to see Watt and Stama but the main thing is we don't wait too long to change it if the starting pair aren't showing much threat.

Spot on young man. We'll also see if Dundee's international travellers make it.

Nice to be back to the real stuff. The three points would be most welcome esph since we play Sellick next week.

Not suprised we only have that one change with Casey coming in for McGinn, I would have loved to have seen Kaleta getting a run out as I've been impressed by what I've seen so far.

Gutted that Dundee have dropped Big Earnie McCracken in goal as he is an absolute bomb scare.
