A great 20 mins and if we scored would have made a difference.  However once behind only one outcome.    Not seen red card but heard was shocker so bad decision by gordon.  Keep the heid up folks

A very good summary of the game.

I've seen people say they think it was a harsh decision. Obviously it's how folk view it

This one up front running about with the other players about 30 yards from him is not working it s a waste of a guy like Stam who could probably put the ball in the net regular if he had someone playing right beside him.

You're on the money. Stam looks to be a player but not in this role. We don't have a player on our books who can play as a lone striker. That points to a recruitment failure last summer. Line up needs tweaking.

I thought we came out the traps flying, pressing them and it was nice to see them start nervy with a few mistakes. Shame Stama couldn't get the ball out of under his feet to score from Scales error but Miller was unfortunate his effort cracked the post. His free kick was tremendous but a shame it wasn't a foot lower, early days in the game but you start to think it's not your day. We seemed to restrict them to very little in the first half but they got the vital goal.

I love watching Scottish football but it's really depressing to think no one can really lay a glove on a team with Liam Scales and Auston Trusty as a centre back partnership, a guy who was part of one of the worst defenses in EPL history.

Thought the first half was very good but you have to put your chances away against Celtic otherwise its gonna come back to bite you.

McCowan got the break of the ball for his goal with the ricochet, but it was poor defending from us after that as we backed off and let him hit it, instead of closing him down.

Second half we started well enough but the second goal kills us.

Not sure about the substitutions. Ultimately everyone got on, just not sure I would have put them on in that order.

Stama is a huge upgrade on Robinson.

Sparrow provided great energy and Kaleta was impressive going forward until he got injured.

Some of Lennon Millers passes were ridiculously good. Unfortunately we never capitalised.

Not a surprise to lose the game. Celtic are a much better team than us, with infinitely greater resources.

Wednesday could be tough with Gordon and probably Kaleta both out. But saw enough today to feel positively about the semi final on Sunday......

Football is all about opinions. Its funny, I think Wednesday's game is more important to us than next Sunday's. I'd rather Gordon's suspension finished next weekend. We'll miss him against St Johnstone. For me, the semi is all about how much cash we can earn. Teams are now beginning to suss us out and we have no Plan B. Tie up our wing backs and Lennon Miller and they're guaranteed a draw at the worst.

Sorry, but Im 55 years old and we have been in 5 cup finals in that time.

Sunday is a chance to get to another one.

The League Cup is also one of only 2 competitions we will ever have a realistic chance of winning.

So Sunday is the bigger game for me by a country mile.

Not saying the extra money isnt welcome, particularly after the summer we had, but we all go to the football for the memories. Cup semis and finals provide pretty big ones.

Also, Aberdeen might just surprise us and give us a punchers chance in the final!

I should probably qualify my last post.

Im not saying I dont care about the game and we shouldnt try to get something from it.

I dont think we are sending the youth team up to play it and resting everyone.

But there will be enough enforced changes and we have enough squad players to rotate a fair few of them.

Tell some players that there are semi final places up for grabs. Go take one.

Respect everyone’s opinions but for me the Semi Final is the bigger game out of the next two by some distance. If I was offered a choice between winning against Dundee Utd and winning the Semi Final then I’d pick the Semi every single time. We’ve got a chance to get to a Cup Final, they don’t come around very often atall.

Don't get me wrong, I'm looking forward to Sunday and it'll be a big occasion for us. We've got a fighter's chance, of course, but I'm not overly optimistic and my expectations are limited.

I agree about squad rotation but options in midfield and up front are very limited.

He essentially hit the free kick to himself.

No-one else touched the ball between  him hitting it and it rebounding back to him.

It’s the same as hitting a penalty off the post, you can’t play it again, someone else has to touch it.

Sorry - guys total brain fart - thanks for confirming.

Was a typical shoulda woulda, coulda game against the OF.

Came close a few times, they scored and then we allowed them to dictate/run at us.

Saw the highlights of the Rangers v St Mirren game - Made very heavy weather of it and the win perhaps masked the performance.

Certainly have it in us to beat them, but then alot of it is down to the whole, crowd/officiating/break of the ball thing again.

Usual post match comments after yet another defeat from either celtic or rangers. We were competitive upto a point and given the huge and widening financial gulf that's as much as we can expect bar the odd fluke. The media and some of our fans need a reality check reset.

Poorer Rangers teams have beaten good Motherwell teams. We will need alot of things to align to get a result and fluke it.

Spot on, the simple fact re yesterday was we never took the chances we had and were beaten by a team light years better than ours. Our season will be judged on the results against the other 9 teams not the ugly sisters.

I think everyone wants to win both games  but as you say, winning a semi v rangers to get to a final lingers a lot more in your memory than a league win at Tannadice.
you loose the semi then we are out, no final. Loose to Utd we have most of the season to recover from that. Let’s hope we beat both of them! COYW!

Agreed, SK will set out to stifle them for 70 mins and have a go if we are still in it at that point. However we are likely to be 2-0 down before that point. Big difference Rangers are pish in relation to Celtic but we are unlikely to capitalise on it.

Anyone know if the scum supporters of Celtic managed to leave the ground intact this time.

SKs loyality to certain players will cost him in the end. Teams need to evolve, if only to keep your opponents guessing.

If we don't have the technical abilities to pass and keep the ball, we need to be more physical and pace to get about the pitch.

Its a difficult one.

His loyalty to players is how he always manages to keep the dressing room, regardless of performance or results.

I agree the team needs to evolve and I have no doubt SK knows that. But its a much harder thing to do in practice and he certainly wont be saying it out loud.

I actually thought Saturdays team selection was a veiled admission of our weaknesses.

Putting Kaleta and Sparrow in provided much greater drive and energy into the team and dropping Robinson for Stama gave us more of an out ball quite simply down to the number of duals he won compared to Robinson.

Ultimately it still wasnt enough, but until Paton, Slattery and Nicholson are fit SK is going to be left tinkering around the edges.

I do expect to see Maswanhise or Tavares get a run out tomorrow night though.

I thought we played better against Celtic than Dundee. As mentioned above I think Kaleta, Sparrow and AP showed up well enough to merit a starting position in future games. Now we just need SK to shift Miller back a bit and find a partner for AP. Or a midfield that will support and create chances for AP. Moses has shown that he can score but again we need to create the chances for him. There’s a decent team to be had from our squad but SK needs to figure out what that is and if we go with it for all games or so we change depending on who the opposition are. To be honest I’m not sure what our best team/set up is but then again I haven’t put much thought into it
