Ross County v Motherwell 23/11/2024

Comments on here so predictable. First loss at County in 11 games I think. Fine lines. Better to lose 1 game and won 1, than draw 2.
VAR ridiculous. Score a goal and lose momentum because it takes over 5 minutes to give not offside. Should be automatic. Opponents get chance to reorganise and we try to  keep warmed up. 🤬

We must be expecting a very tough game. 6 defenders in the starting line up

6 defenders. 1 up top. Zero attacking midfielders.

Stama isolated. Wingbacks not making runs. Useless punts and pings. Second to every ball. Even the pies were shite.

I may provide a fuller analysis of the game in time. Suffice to say, however, Kettlewell is a donkey and we got exactly what we deserved yesterday having set up like that.

Utterly appalling and predictable pish from kick off. County deserved their win. Wish I hadn’t bothered with the massive dangerous journey.

We lost 3-0 there last December, in an appalling game. Fine lines as you say though, and we've won quite a few games narrowly.

I think whats upsetting many folk is SK's overly cautious tactics and seeming inability to learn from his mistakes. Its not the most exciting football to watch but in fairness has been reasonably successful so far this season. Recurring weaknesses include defending too deeply; failing to achieve clean sheets; weak midfield; isolated strikers; and over reliance on set pieces to score. We're reading these comments week after week.

Now I get that some of these weaknesses are down to a horrendous injury list, but some are down to recruitment failures, especially up front. Usually a manager will try to source a wide variety of different types of a striker to give him various options. That doesn't seem to be the case with SK. We'll look at Vale, Stama, Ebiye, Robinson, Maswanhise, Tavares and Watt. Vale, Tavares and Maswhanise are all fast, can play outside the box but are lightweight. Stama and Ebiye are penalty box strikers but lightweight. Watt is more physical, bit is not  a prolific scorer.  Robinson is quite talented but very lightweight and not a scorer, despite yesterday's goal.  In my opinion only, Robinson, Tavares and Watt have disappointed. SK loves a 3-5-1-1 formation and thats not a recent thing; so why have we not recruited a big target man?  Like it or not defenders are becoming bigger and bigger.

We had a fortnight to prepare for yesterday's game and SK should know Ross County inside out. So why did he get it so wrong? I get the players too had an off day.

I see that our club is going to reimburse the fans who bought tickets from Ross County, but were unable to travel to Dingwall on Saturday. A very generous gesture and good on them. It helps to underline our position as a communiuty club. Our fans should not have lost out financially.

It would seem that Ross County's terms and conditions allowed them to provide sales and entry data to MFC. Very generous of them. It was a bit disingenuous of them to hide begind their Ts and Cs when refusing to issue refunds from their own coffers though.  Pray tell me, if they don't have control over their Ts and Cs who does? A bit like our old IT department's standard excuse when a program went wrong " Nothing to do with us, it was computer programming fault - just down to the hardware" That only held water for so long.

I must admit I wouldn't be complaining if our Directors cut back on hospitality the next time Ross County come calling to Fir Park.

Totally appreciate and understand comments and criticism on here about SK being "over-cautious" with his 6 defender approach however it's evident from his summer business and setup he is setting us up not to lose heavily which has been successful in every game we have lost so far this season.

The same people would be up in arms if we played an attacking 4-3-3 or 4-4-2 and started getting pummeled by 4 and 5 goals....canny win!

I absolutely think that Kettlewell is due stick for his selection on Saturday.

Having your best striker do donkey work for 60 minutes to open up the game for the ones who aren't anywhere near as good for the last 30 minutes makes absolutely no sense. I'd rather have Robinson doing the 60 minute shift and Stama coming on to exploit the tired back line because he's a more capable footballer and has better movement. Or, y'know, maybe play them together?

Bringing Gordon in made complete sense... if you retained an attacking option outside of Stama. We didn't and it was dugshite as a result. Sparrow gives you endeavour and runs in behind in the right set up; Saturday wasn't it, as there needs to be two forwards occupying the opposing defence for it to work. He was badly bounced about by their humpties because he had bugger all space to exploit.

Changes for Saturday required; I'd like Halliday out for Maswanhise after his abject defensive display/lack of tracking for their second. Never going to happen, though. Maswanhise for Sparrow is what I'd anticipate will happen.

A bad day at the office, hopefully Saturday we can get in Hibs faces and actually show some attacking intent, rather than launching 60 yard balls to a lone striker. Reeking fitba.

Playing two strikers up front together isnt in the Kettlewell play book that would involve actually changing things out his comfort zone lol.

I actually think Robinson doing the dirty work and Stam making the runs in to the box  would be fire and deadly no better team to unleash them against than HIbs cause they are murder at the back.

He could at least give it a go cause Stams confidence must be very near on the floor the way we are using him.

I’ve said this before: if I was Stama, and the manager kept deploying me in a way that rendered me useless, I’d be banging his door down before my stock dropped any further. It’s akin to buying a fork and trying to use it as a knife. Stupid.

I'd be very surprised if TJ isn't back in at the weekend. He was likely only left out due to him having to travel for international duty.

Halliday being dropped though, is something I'm not sure will happen.
