VAR is a shambles, week after week it's making mistake after mistake, Dens park last week we had the clearest pen shout you will see, and no check, a player down with a head knock play not stopped, today never a feckin pen as agreed by both pundits on sportscene and we get another long VAR check and they refer it to the ref, who never saw an issue in real time, it's a feckin joke.

The whole set up needs to be binned as what we have now is not fit for purpose.

The quicker the better imo.

It sucks the life out of the game but it'll never happen  unfortunately.

Didn't think Utd's was a pen when I watched it live on the stream. Having seen it on Sportscene I'm even more convinced it wasn't a pen. (Also don't think our shout in the second half was a pen either).

I'm with you on that Weeyin. Neither were penalties. United got lucky with that one. Likewise Stama's booking. A United player committed exactly the same foul in the same area of the pitch but wasn't carded.

United came to Fir Park with an axe to grind and it showed. Plenty of needle and bad blood throughout the game. The ref was very lenient with a succession of their aerial challenges. Just glad their nasty attitude resulted in 0 points. With the exception of Louis Moult rattling the bar, they rode their luck throughout and benefitted from the rub of the green. Ref should have paid a visit to their dressing room at half time to have a wee word in their captain's ear.

Utd pen a farce,  funny how Goodwin never mentioned that as always quick to moan about soft pens against them.

Plus fair play to moult for not celebrating,  touch of class yet when halliday done it in semi final he got slated.  I thought halliday had one of his best games for us today

Agree but since VAR awarded theirs why didn’t they award ours?
I can just about accept VAR making a mistake in one game and getting it correct in another but in the same game their interpretation should be consistent.

I don't have a problem with Dundee Utd being awarded a penalty for that as long as we get ours.

Just basic inconsistency yet again.

That was a thoroughly entertaining game. My main takeaway was that I really enjoyed a game of football for the first time in a while and I left the stadium smiling.

The tactic of continuing to surrender possession to then feed off second balls and scraps was pretty annoying to watch, however, but it worked today as we scored one more goal than we conceded. It’s a basic tactic that won’t work against other better teams and managers, but fair play to Frail and Kettlewell for getting more right than wrong. It was an approach that ultimately led to end-to-end entertainment for both sides, with seven goals scored.

An obvious positive was seeing Stama played in his best position and with the team setup accordingly to provide him with appropriate service, finally.

A worrying negative was seeing Wilson brought on as a left-sided midfielder and looking completely lost in a role that he really hasn’t been developed for. He needs to be managed better and deployed as a LB/LWB. He’s no Georgie Gent, unfortunately, who could also play as an inside left forward and rip through teams.

A home win on Friday night against Killie will see us on a minimum of 3 wins from 6 games for December, which is about what I expect from a Motherwell team.

Scoring goals in the first half - who is this team :)

Really pleasing to see energy, attacking football. Lots of chances for both teams.

Much prefer this approach , got to give the fans something to cheer about during and as @wellfan mentioned - thoroughly entertaining game.  Win lose or daw,  entertainment and excitement is good for the game.

Amazing the difference to the matchday experience when we try and play football not hoofball. For the life of me I do'nt know if its pre planned or just happens but the minute the hoofball starts you know its going to be one piss poor game. I thought LM was outstanding yesterday he was getting the chance to spray the passes about and on virtually every occasion he received the ball in the air he tried to bring it down and play it rather than the dire aimless punt forward. A million times better than the eye bleeding stuff of the previous 3 games.

An enjoyable  and entertaining game yesterday with a vital result. Our attacking play was great to watch at times, having cut out much of our long ball game and playing more on the deck. The encouraging thing for me was that despite scoring 4 goals, much of it didn’t quite come off! I’ve no doubt the return of players like Paton and Sparrow hase given the midfield a lift and provided a better link between the defence and striker. Paton really has been missed for his energy. Encouraging also to see O’Donnell and Nicholson join the fray.  Things are picking up injury wise.

I thought that Paton, Halliday and Stama were our best players with the latter starting to show what he’s capable of, if given decent service. Lennon Miller too had a good game although he took a helluva battering. He survived to see the full game out though. The goals from Stama’s header and Sparrow were well crafted and finished.

The fact that United treated us as enemies, not opponents, added to the occasion. If they were hurting after 2 successive defeats yesterday, what will they be like after 3? Respect to Louis Moult though – out of place in that team. An argument can made that they deserved a point but, they certainly enjoyed the rub of the green.

Plenty of positives but also a few negatives, that should not be overlooked.  Our defence has regressed and we gave United far too much unhindered access to our goal (26 efforts on goal, with 9 on target). We do need to harden up physically to avoid being bullied. We needed to find a  way to deal with the 6-3 Sam Dalby.   Its quite ok to cede possession but not in the final 3rd. I don’t mind us allowing teams to come at us, if we have 5 at the back who snuff out everything and the Ox is made redundant, but that certainly wasn’t the case yesterday. Arguably, if we play 3/5 at the back we don’t need an out and out defensive player midfielder but I just don’t think we’re that secure at the back to do without one.

Jim Goodwin’s second half changes worked to a point and it was interesting to see the Kaleta – Middleton battle. Both are great going forward but can’t defend. We did react to that though by bringing on SOD.

Credit to the management and players. A good day at the office. Enjoy Copenhagen guys but be careful with the Paske Bryg. Its lethal.

Its pretty clear to me that if we got our hands on two proper wingers that can get balls into the box then Stam would get double figures every season he is with us.

Good regular service into the 6 yard box an just outside it and he would score for fun.

one thing that will never help him is the hoofball game that we employ far too often.

I think our defence has regressed in as much we are missing McGinn. The back 3 of McGinn, Gordon, Casey started the season solid as a rock. The sooner we can get back to that the better. Our midfield is starting to look like it will be much better with players coming back from injury. I think we also have some decent forwards. SK has taken a lot of stick for his recruitment but with players returning from injuries, it’s now starting to look like we have a decent squad of players capable of keeping us in top 6
