wellsince75
VAR could and should be an amazing addition for our game. If it sticks to the purpose of minimising clear and obvious errorsthat could affect the outcome of the game, and to ensure fairer decision-making overall. If VAR can detect a clear and obvious error within 30 seconds it should . It if take more than 30 seconds then we should challenge how clear or obvious the error is. EG being 2 yards offside is obvious, having a left hand that may put you 2-3 cm offside isn't . We've made simple complicated - please delete and start again.
numpty
Trouble is, as soon as you put a time limit on it, everyone starts rushing to make sure a decision gets made within the time (or, if you're a conspiracy theorist, takes just a wee bit too long), both of which would likely result in mistakes too. I've said from the very beginning that to be offside there should be CLEAR daylight between the attacker and defender. This big toe crap is just plain stupid. wellfan
The VAR technology was never going to be the problem. It was always going to be a mess - and always will be - for as long as the incompetent SFA referees are tasked with its operation.

The clubs should be demanding change from the SFA, as they have no accountability VAR should be scrapped until it is fit for purpose. Watch the VAR review show on YouTube, every time it's on Willie Colum is admitting his team got it wrong on at least 1 or 2 occasions and yet the same people are still in a job. Just on the last point, is it repeat offenders, or is it spread across the team? Not expecting an answer, just a general musing. Like, if I were to continually make mistakes week in, week out on a project I'm working on I'd be out on my erse after a couple of months, or at least taken off it/put under review. If you make the odd mistake over the course of a year or so, it's not quite the same thing. I agree on your change demand/requirement. Every single week there's an incorrect decision and it needs to be stopped and fixed, or at the very least improvement plans put in place that are announced publicly; e.g. better training regimes etc. I'm not looking for naming and shaming of individuals but just some demonstrable effort to improve things. I'm not sure of the answer; full time officials is one but that's increased cost for not necessarily increased quality. Perhaps gives you more sway over poor performances, demotions etc. but outside of that, I guess the biggest issue is the interpretation of the laws/reasons for its use that need to be absolutely black and white? We've been on the receiving end plenty times...whether the refs admit it or not. You're also stretching the truth by saying that it cost Rangers the game...plenty of things can happen during the spot kick (that was never awarded) and afterwards. For me, VAR was introduced as a tool to take away the dubiety...but we've literally spent days listening to differing opinions on this one decision...its tedious in the extreme. I would literally only use VAR to see if the baw has crossed the goalmouth and allow the referee to referee the rest.

For me it's a combination of bargin basement technology that's not fit for purpose, poor quality officials and and poor quality training. Add to that the "we never do anything wrong" attitude and unaccountability of the SFA/SPFL and it's a complete shit show. VAR was sold as addressing 'clear and obvious errors" to improve the game, not the actively looking for reasons to disallow goals scenario we now have.
weeyin
Exactly. The managers and players were assured it "wouldn't change the way the game was played" - and that turned out to be bollocks.
