Motherwell v Kilmarnock 20/12/2024

As an Ayrshire Steelman, this is as close to a local derby as it gets for me.

Will undoubtedly be another tough game. McInnes teams are hard to beat. But with players all flooding back and getting minutes in, we are finally starting to look like a functional outfit.

Looking forward to another Friday night under the lights. Hopefully we can come out on top again!

Same team as Saturday, please. Which shocks me, given my dislike for Halliday. 😂

Maswanhise definitely provides a bit more than Watt. I like them both but you can't argue with his performance yesterday and he and AP work well together.

I think the important thing is to get as many people back towards full match fitness (or with the ability to play 30/45 in the tank) for the festive period.

The likes of Sparrow, Nicholson etc. getting minutes is important for that but I wouldn't be rushing them back, even with Sparrow's goal yesterday. He's an ideal impact sub to come on with 20-30 to go and run at a tired back line.

Maswanhise was absolutely raging when he got hooked yesterday. That hunger from him, and Watt putting himself in the shop window, will see them in healthy competition to be the main foil for Stama. Both are different and have their uses depending on the opposition and/or how a game is panning out.

Robinson being injured and Moses being the wildcard has probably forced Kettlewell to simplify his attack options and abandon the one up top crap, thankfully. We’re so much better when we try to play football in the final third.

Nicholson and Vale (next year) returning throw further positive attacking dimensions into the mix. I can imagine the pair of them feeding Stama countless chances.

We don’t really play with attacking out-and-out wingers, so who knows what’ll happen with Tavares, particularly with SOD coming back and Koutroumbis getting closer to match fitness, meaning he’ll no longer be required as the crazy RWB option. Likely back to Hibs unless they pay us to keep him.

Robinson’s injury aside, which is awful, these attacking problems/options are all good to have. It’s all feeling a bit more positive now.

U ok M8? Pm me xoxox

In all seriousness, though, totally agree. I'm absolutely not giving Kettlewell a pass based on two wins but it does feel like things might finally be coming together.

A win would open up a 14pt gap on Killie which would be massive.  I am still at stage where I want us cleat of the bottom teams.

Same starting line up for me but we now have plenty options on the bench which will include Watt returning.

COYW

I think that’s the only question for SK Maswanhise or Watt to start.

Will be a battle. We need to keep our discipline.

Kaleta and Seddon offer far more offensively and should be our preferred wingback at home.

That's true, but SOD provides a more of a calm head when things are imploding (like Ross County, Hibs and Dundee). I still think some of our issues on our recent bad streak were made worse by missing a captain vice captain on the pitch.

Of course, most managers are loathe to change a winning team, so would not be at all surprised to see the same starting line-up for this, and I'd be fine with that and saving the likes of Sparrow and Watt for appearances in the second half.

Killie are a very big physical, street wise bordering on dirty team. 7 sending offs this season. So maybe your right in having Odonnell back in. Tho, I don't think he is that great in defending the back post when ball is in the air.

I was wondering about that for picking Watt or Maswanhise. Watts mentality and experience might fare better in this one to start with then bring Maswanhise on for the last 30 mins or so

I didnt think Killie would match us up as they normally play 4-3-3 with Armstrong and Kennedy wide but I see they played 3-5-2 today against Hearts. Be interesting to see how McInnes decides to go on Friday night. Having the ability to change it up is certainly and handy attribute to have.

Kettlewell has no plan b, it will be 3-5-2 again

Yeah, Killie have a ridiculous amount of red cards this season and will be without Robbie Deas on Sat.

Not sure if Danny Armstrong has played much recently.

Hard to guage Killie at the moment.

Won today with 10 men, but there's always the caveat of their pitch (and Hearts being shite).

Well maybe for 6 minutes. After that they were down to 10 men
