Either way it should mean he doesn't ref a Premier League game again

It doesn't need to be that harsh as we are already struggling with limited numbers of refs in the Premiership pool.

A spell in the lower leagues, plus some additional training, and further assessments would work for me.

If it keeps happening after that, then it's a different story.

A bit like real jobs.

Nonsense he should be off the referees list altogether, the laws of football and interpretation of them are the same in the Premier league or Sunday league.

If it was like real jobs the incompetent and unsuitable would be out on their backsides and replacements identified, football is no different

If we did that, we'd have none left.

And where are the replacements coming from? Recruiting a new hire and waiting for them to complete the multi-year process to qualify for the Premiership? Or do you think that the refs in the lower leagues are already good enough?

I'd much rather train up the existing referees to be competent than promote ones that are less competent to the top league and keep my fingers crossed it goes OK.

In practical terms, if refs thought they were going to get the sack if they made a poor decision, you know they would just start relying more heavily on VAR and looking at replays even more often.

The refs have been poor for a number of years - replacing them with even less experienced refs (who have gone through the same training as the existing ones, remember) would make things worse.

We dont have enough referees for that.

But a spell in the lower leagues to contemplate the circumstances and learn from his mistake wouldnt go amiss.

Hopefully he will return better from the experience.

I said at the game as he walked over to the screen and we were all booing him and telling him what a dick he was that the arrogant shit wasn’t going to over turn it out of spite - that attitude is why he should be banned from refereeing.

That referee hasn't just made a mistake...he's proven that belief from some quarters, that referees are arrogant, belligerent and unapproachable...how often do we hear players and managers say that a referee wouldnt talk to them or wouldn't explain a decision either during a game or after it?

This referee in particular, instead of realising his clear mistake that was recognised by everyone who had the ability to rewatch it, doubled down on his decision in a show of 'I'm right and everyone else is wrong', his hand gestures to casey and his stomping around the field of play displayed a real arrogance. I genuinely believe we wouldn't lose much if he was never allowed to referee at our level again.

People pay good money to watch football, not a display such as this by a trumped up wee fanny, that's managed to pass a few courses to get him fired into the limelight.

Do you think that booing and abusing the referee will have helped him to do his job with a clear head?

The way that referees are treated by the crowd, by footballers and coaching staff is just embarrassing.

He made a mistake, so dropping down a level for a bit and receiving guidance from his employers should help him.
