Motherwell v Rangers 29/12/2024

It seems like a fair result overall.

We were clearly the better side in the first half, but Rangers' changes at the break, combined with us losing Stama, Miller, and Kaleta, swung the second half in their favour.

As for the two VAR incidents, they seemed straightforward to me. You simply can't put your hands on the keeper during a set piece and expect to get away with it. It’s a frustrating rule, but it’s been in place for some time now. The offside decision was correct as well—no real debate there.

I mean if you offered me a point before the game id have taken it but i cant help feel a little cheated. That Butland OG was never a foul in my opinion, After that absolutely everything we did went under the microscope

Totally agree and yes feel slightly deflated and robbed. Re 3rd goal

I would have taken the draw before the game but I’m just fucking scunnered with that. 2-0 up at half time and predictably we let them back into it. We have the ball in the net two more times and neither count (correctly, I might add, going by the rules of the game and VAR).

As ever our age old Achilles heal of being 2-0 ahead bites us. I am genuinely more comfortable with a one goal lead than a two goal one because we almost always switch off and gift the opposition a goal and a way back into it.

I had to miss the game today but am extremely delighted with the point, given the way we're playing just now. Great to rack up a 2 goal lead but it was never going to last as our game management is very very poor.  Put it this way if we hadn't scored a second its a game we'd have lost, possibly by more than a goal.

I can't comment on the VAR incidents.

Overall a good day. We're still in 6th spot and increased our cushion over St Johnstone. That should always be our first priority.

A bit more conviction, extra yard press and snappiness into tackles needed to see it out.

You're then depending on the ref not penalising 50/50s though

The changes Rangers made at half time and in the second half made the difference. As is usually the case with the Old Firm, they can call upon the quality needed when our players are tiring, and the quality we have on the bench simply isn't of an equal level.

Losing Stama and Miller also hurt us.

Seems it's only the Ox who gets no protection/soft fouls when opposition looks at you in a funny way...

We were never winning that with the injuries, and officials hell bent in giving them every advantage.

13 mins of extra time is disgusting.

I seem to recall we got the same negative treatment from the officials the last time we had the cheek to call them out.

A point further away from the bottom two is never a bad thing tho.

Apart from when they (correctly) upheld our first goal after VAR had flagged a potential handball? If they were really hell bent on giving them every advantage then why didn’t they just give that as a deliberate handball?? I know it wasn’t but surely if a set of officials were hell bent on giving them every advantage then they would have ruled that goal out??? Or so I would have thought?

Was Ox protected when Yang ran into him and dived leading to a penalty on Boxing Day against us? No. Rangers and Celtic are protected against other teams.

That was a stonewall penalty. Ox was clumsy in the challenge and clearly caught the Celtic player. It wasn’t even remotely the same as the incident with Butland and Watt today.

A balanced opinion. Fair point on that one.

Still to get their complimentary penalty and 10+ mins added on

I don’t think they’ve had a penalty awarded to them in the league all season.

Kinda surprising when you take into account the “Penalty to Rangers” narrative and the one where match officials and VAR will do everything in their power to help them out when they need it.
