The quality of football on show in general in the league is poor but I do agree with a few of the posters who have said about the quantity of games having to be played at this time of year. It’s beyond ridiculous. Quantity of games drags the quality down I think.

of course the simple solution is to increase the league to 16/18 teams and play each other twice but the clubs will refuse this as they want the poison mobs turning up 4 times a year to our home to rip up our seats.

We have seen what happens with Hammels team when you try and play football in this league without the quality of player required to do so. Simo is proving it again at St Johnstone right now.

We havent had a fully functioning midfield due to injury since the start of the season. Things are starting to look a little brighter on the horizon, but its going to take a few more weeks to get Nicholson, Slattery and Andrews up to speed. But at the same time we have lost Miller and Paton.

Our only 3 fully fit midfielders last night were Davor, Halliday and Sparrow. I would have been tempted to bring Sparrow on at half time, but that would have meant taking TJ or Vale off who were both putting in a shift anyway. Kaleta and Wilson both had very poor games last night which with a 2 man midfield isnt going to end well. But with Seddon out Wilson has to play and Kaleta's replacement is the much maligned SOD.

The way I view this is that the first half of the season has been a means to an end.

If we are still playing the same way in March, I will start to ask questions.

Sure SK could help himself at times by making better in game changes. But for once last night I thought they did improve us a little.

Back on grass on Saturday with hopefully Stama and Seddon back and available and hopefully McGinn in the starting 11. A bit more game time for Nicholson, Slattery and Andrews and we should be looking a bit more competitive going into the cup game.

You know what is boiling my piss a wee bit about Kettlewell if he had set us up to have a go against teams that were lower than us we could be sitting in 3rd place right now on easy street.

Two games for me up coming shall be an eye opener and that's St Johnstone back to back they are beyond terrible if he sets up like it's prime Real Madrid we are playing the I just don't know what to think.

We will undoubtedly set up the same way against St Johnstone. We have done it twice already this season and beaten them twice.

The game at Fir Park they played really nice football but barely had a sniff at our goal.

I dont mind that as long as when we have the ball we do something with it rather than just shell it long.

My hope is that we have our better players on the pitch to allow us to do that.

Counter attacking football can be quite entertaining if done properly. Just ask Leicester fans!

You do of course require a plan B for teams who wont come out and let you play that way. 

I dont expect St Johnstone to be one of them.

From the little I saw of last night and what I heard it sounded pretty horrific and those few supporters who braved the sub zero temperatures do go down to Ayrshire to watch that deserve free entry to the next game. 
 

That said I’m actually quite happy with a point and it keeps us in a pretty comfortable position.

Normally missing a game because I’m night shift pisses me off but driving in at 7:30 last night I was not bothered and having watched the sportscene highlights and read the comments here, I’m glad I missed the game. That said getting a point appears to be a great result.

I've been going for 40 years and it's always been the case that if you went to a Motherwell match it was more likely than not we wouldn't win or wouldn't play well.

Motherwell are a team you support.  It's not an entertainment event.  You have to have the stomach for it and you have to have realistic levels of expectation.  If you don't, Rangers and Celtic are just down the road.

And of course the standard of the game has regressed massively over the time I've been going but that's mostly down to economic factors that extend across the whole of Scottish football and most other nation's football.

It's not dross every week but it is a lot.  That's just how it is and it's not going to change.  So you either have to accept that or move on.

Every single person here would love it if Motherwell played better football and scored more goals and won more games but that's not the reason you go.

 

I disagree that football is not an Entertainment event. It should be entertaining to some extent. Also in decades I have been going there have been times when we do play well and are expected to win. We have beaten Celtic and Rangers away. Finished 2nd and 3rd not long ago. We have also had creative players you would pay to see in past times

Just been listening to Kettlewell on sportsound talking about Marley Watkins challenge on Gordon.   Yes not great but I am getting a bit bored now with Kettlewell whining after every game, yes decisions have went against us but it's almost like he likes sound of his voice.

Stuart- maybe focus on the hoofbdll and honking quality we have to suffer at times or is that the officials fault also?

Wasn’t a bad challenge. Just fell awkwardly. Not an uncommon incident. We did get two correct VAR reviews in our favour. Although, I have to admit, I’d like to see VAR do away with the microscopic offside reviews which would have resulted in us going a goal down.

I think I've read somewhere recently that if you do similar in rugby it's a ban for multiple games. Might be wrong, as I don't watch much rugby.

He has endangered an opponent. If its on the ground it's red. 

Gordon fell badly onto what is essentially a very hard surface.

That was an interesting one. I've seen lines drawn on the image which shows the Killie player a very few centimetres offside. I've also seen another image (presumably not used by VAR) showing a couple of players offside, one by maybe 30 -40 cms off.

Wasn’t a bad challenge? Seriously? Liam Gordon could have been really seriously injured. Watkins knew exactly what he was doing. A Harry Kane special. 

Agree Stuart Kettlewell tends to waffle on quite a lot however, his stance on aerials challenges has been fairly consistent since he’s been in charge.

It was a shite challenge and Watkins knew exactly what he was doing...it had potential to be very nasty for Gordon
