St Johnstone V Motherwell 18/01/2025: Scottish Cup

Well, its the cup next weekend. Our injury and suspension will severely limit our selection options but maybe thats a good thing. As someone on P & B pointed out some time ago, SK is at his best when our starting line up options are very limited and the team virtually picks itself. De facto, his scope for decision making is almost zero.

As things stand our best starting line up for next week would seem to be

Mair

Kaleta Casey  Balmer Blaney Wilson

Halliday Andrews Sparrow/Davor

Watt Maswhanise

Thats assuming that we don't pick up more injuries during the week.  A huge if.

Lose and it's time to go.   Defended him loads but we aren't making any progress

Although I agree, and I maintain that he should’ve been gone by December 2023, there’s absolutely no chance he’s getting fired if we get knocked out of the cup against St Johnstone. We’re more than likely stuck with him until we find ourselves at grave risk of relegation sometime in the near future.

Im sorry but this is absurd. We can't afford to be paying yet another manager off. He's kept us in the spl since he was appointed and we are top six but he's to go. Thankfully you won't be making that decision

We will lose this and exit the Cup, absolutely nothing surer. Even a week away and it’s already got all the hallmarks of a rotten day.

It’s such a shite draw in every aspect. Away to a Premier side, not great for travelling fans and with our stinking form and performances it’s hard to muster any enthusiasm.

I will wait to see who is available to play before making any predictions about this game. Glad we have a full weeks rest between games at last. We are going to need it.

He can get knocked out the cup, drop out the top six and be in a relegation battle and he knows he still won't get sacked.

Thats how secure his job is at the club.

Maybe not an issue for many fans as they just want to support the team on cup day through thick and through thin and have a day out.  Granted, its not the most the most attractive or romantic of ties but they'll still be there in numbers. St Johnstone should be making it as easy as possible for those interested, to buy tickets.

Think st j. Put a no on tickets and if more were sold they would open up behind the goals , dont know if everyone would then move behind the goals or just the new ticket buyers

for what its worth iv heard the well bois havnt bought there tickets yet hoping behind the goals gets open

mday else hear that ?

I’m a season ticket holder and have been going to home and away games for 30-odd years, but you’d have to pay me to go to this game.

Given the likely outcome, it’s just not worth my time or the expense. I can’t be arsed watching Kettlewell’s crap project likely do nothing other than surrender possession and try not to lose to the worst team in the league.

That said, I can only hope I am wrong to give this one a miss, but that’s what happens when fans become disillusioned with having to tolerate a crap manager.

That's really good going considering there's been some horrendous away performances lately.ive got my ticket but I have to say right now I'm not looking forward too it,let's hope the players can give us something too cheer about come full time.

I know I won't be making that decision. However I am entitled to give my opinion and you know I always am honest.  If it helps I was delighted seeing slattery back and scoring

Of course you are entitled to your opinion. I was also delighted to see Slattery back and scoring. I just think it's a bit knee jerk the Kettlewell out opinion - and I'm personally sick of it - not aiming that at you btw. All over facebook. Some folk on here. Let's get rid of him then and see who else could do a better job. Robbo got the same treatment towards the end Alexander got it too. No one is good enough for the well in some peoples eyes

We will never get rid of a manager while we're in a comfortable position in the league but let's be honest kettlewell isn't very good,we could replace him with a semi competent manger and we would be better off,as for alexander if anyone deserved stick from the fans it was him.

I don't agree re Kettlewell but that's fine. I think stick is ok to a point - but it went over the score with Alexander in my view. Someone grabbing the mic when he was being interviewed to give him abuse. No need

Could we and would we? I’m not so confident.

Totally agree, yeah some of the football hasn't been great, but a semi final and at present above many teams in league although it's tight and we sack the manager, should Robinson be sacked?mcinnes?,the hearts manager?,teams that are going through bad times, some folk need a reality check and this new manager is going to do what?absolutely bonkers to think sack Kettlewell and we will surely improve.
