wellfan
If Frail doesn’t move away from the back 5, we can only assume he’s either blind or stupid.
fizoxy
Most of the league outside of the OF play a back 5, and it's been successful for us to date, so I don't see us switching system, at least until the new manager is in (and fheres a good chance they will prefer a 5 as well). We would probably benefit from keeping things simple until then. Getting the right players in each position is probably more important. I don't particularly like a back 5, but when the wing backs are on form, it can be effective. I think it was Robinson who played down the importance of formations, stating it's just moving players a few yards either way, and what you do in each box is more important. We have definitely been poor in our box, with our suite of right backs being equally poor at that. The formation didn't lose us the game against St J, it was being soft as shite in our own box, and not being clinical in theirs. Hopefully we have Casey back in, he has his flaws but is better than SOD or Blaney.
Kmcalpin
Whatever the precise line up, it would make sense to move SOD out of central defence, unless we've picked up more training ground injuries this week. Its not fair on the player himself to play him out of position.

Kettlewell was the master at playing players out of position. Hung several out to dry when they were clearly struggling, seldom providing them with any support. I fear Frail was part of whatever thinking was behind that nonsense being repeated time after time. Only my opinion of course, but I believe that led to a lot of the frustration and dissent we saw from players prior to Kettlewell manuevering his way out. How can footballers play creative, free flowing football or even quality football when the were told to play out of positions they are comfortable with so often and to a strict formation , a defensive type of game . That must have been frustrating for players to stick to those plans . Won't miss SK negative football .

So who are your two central defenders in this back four then ? One can only assume that it's any two out of Casey, Gordon, Balmer and Blaney. I'd love to hear how you think having fewer defenders on the park will stop us losing goals.

And certainly not when denied support to help them out. Casey on the right of a back three, Wilson in midfield, Blaney on the left of a back three as examples. A team should defend as a unit, and that often starts in the middle of the park. And I’d love to hear how you think continuing with Kettlewell’s approach will stop us losing goals.
joewarkfanclub
Given we dont really have enough fit midfielders to not play 3 at the back and that Frail is unlikely to change the system, Id go with this (if fit). Balcombe Balmer Gordon Casey Kaleta Thompson Slattery Miller Nicholson Maswanhise Armstrong If either Miller, Slattery or both arent fit enough then Paton and Halliday will have to do or maybe Andrews. Most important thing though is to get the wing backs pushed right up to support the midfield and keep Ross County pinned back. Nicholson and Maswanhise will have to do a lot of running to support Armstrong. Not much football in the back 3 but I think the SOD / Blaney experiment has run its course. Id love to see us go 4 at the back with a midfield of Miller, Slattery, Paton, with Nicholson and Maswanhise prividing the width but seems highly unlikely given the circumstances.
El Grew
Finishing in the top 6 and maybe getting into Europe are for the birds. The top priority for whoever ends up as manager must be to arrest the current slump and ensure we stay out of the dogfight that’s developing below us.

Stopping the slump means winning games and that keeps us top 6, so the two objectives go hand in hand. Another 3 maybe 4 wins before the split and the added bonus of a European adventure will be well within our reach.

Throughthelaces
Just set up to win the game let teams worry about what threat we carry. If we can carry a threat there's some decent strikers in the team and some okay fullbacks. The new boy Robinson looks like he's a ball on him I'd play Maswanhise through the middle next to another striker and put slattery in behind them. Oh and get our foot on the ball for a change let us dictate the pace instead of reacting to everything.

Not enough imagination to take the game and initiative to the opposition ,when require..
