I quite get its horses for courses and that you wouldn't adopt identical tactics for playing Celtic at Parkhead or St Johnstone at Fir Park, for example, but in recent weeks St Johnstone (twice) and Ross County have used them to great effect against us. When they defended 45 yards from their goal we had little clue how to get the ball in their box apart from hopeful aerial punts that were gobbled up gratefully.

Working hard off the ball to close teams down and not sitting deep would be a start.

It’s certainly an interesting appointment and surprisingly out of the box for us. He’s got some job on his hands with this squad of mediocre guff and trying to keep us in the league so he needs to hit the ground running and we need to start getting points on the board asap otherwise the playoffs become a distinct possibility.

If he likes to play high press he will have to do something that SK didnt manage and that’s move up and down the park as a team. I don’t know if our failure to do that was due to SK or the players. I’m hoping it was due to SK, it’s certainly hard to move up and down as a team when you play hoofball.

Obviously, His main goal is to keep us in the premier league but hopefully in doing so the fans will see an improvement in our playing style and tactics.
Top six spot is still up for grabs but that might be just too much to asK of the new guy as I think realistically we would have to take 6 points from our next two games or at least 4 points.

Possibly a bit simplistic here, but a high/intense press is a bit of a no-brainer in our league, because if its deployed effectively (like Postecoglou's Celtic) most teams don't have the players with the technical ability to play round it.

True. But as Ange is finding out at Spurs, it's also true that many players aren't capable of implementing it.

If he can get it to work, though, it's definitely they way to go.

Also:

He looks nothing like John Torode.

Wimmer does not rhyme with dinner, winner, sinner

Wimmer does rhyme with swimmer (schwimmer), glimmer, dimmer and Arnold Rimmer.

Hope this helps for all the budding poets and headline writers out ther.

Who's John Torode? Feel like I should know him as that's definitely a Guernsey name.

New mangers only real remit should be to keep us up and away from the playoffs . That is a tough gig itself as not many of these players will really care about where we end up this season. Once that is done he has a big summer coming up to get rid of the dross he has inherited and rebuild for next season . Make no doubt about it our current  squad is very very poor.

Next season will be up and down with a full new squad but hopefully we start playing football and have some players with some ability and passion . Imagine a right back who can pass the ball forward , a team creating chances and playing with intensity - we can start dreaming
