My thoughts exatly.

I imagine we would have offered him in the region of £1250-£1500pw. Don't really see the value in heading to a team that is going nowhere.

Money. To be honest if he is making £2,000 a month extra (at least) then who can blame him. Who would say after starting a family they wouldn't do the same?

I believe that the move to hibs was s done deal, mixu leaving has put that and three other deals up in the air as yogi doesn't want any of them smith included! Hibs are even having to pay compo for a boy they were going to sign and now don't want! Wouldn't b surprised if smith stays as well as Hughes! Unless another club other than Brighton make a move over the next month!

Imo it is time for Saunders and Hutchison to be given serious consideration for the first team. Starting this Thursday.

I think with the current squad size that goes without saying for Thursday.

Further down the line it remains to be seen who comes in and what position they we are in in terms of squad depth. Certainly the two of them did themselves no harm at all in the outings they've had but I don't know how ready they are for week-in, week-out first team selection.

Up to the new manager I suppose.

I think speculating as to specific targets that Gannon will have player-wise is useless at the moment until we know for definite which of Hughes, Clarkson, Reynolds or Quinn are going to be here this season (for my money, none of them). Also, if our friends from Stockport are to be believed, Gannon is a meticulous researcher who kept 'lists' of players. That could include players from anywhere and everywhere, not just those who played under him at Stockport.

The only thing I would say is that as he is portrayed as an, ahem, rather abrasive character, I don't know how many friends in football management he'll have to call upon for favours (as opposed to Sheepy McShovelface with his contact book that stretched to, em, Alex McLeish and Gordon Strachan). Actually more I think about it, this might be a good thing. He'll rely on his own judgement, rather than taking shite on loan from his pals to do him a favour. You can decide for yourselves which McShovelface signing(s) I'm referring to here...

Is the reputed lack of offers for the likes of Smith evidence that clubs are keeping their hands in their pockets more than ever this summer? Surely this means for us that there are bargains to be had in terms of players out of contract.

On a side issue, I'm sure I read somewhere Eddie May saying that Falkirk would be paying fees for a couple of players. Surely this should be an indicator that we should have decent money to spend should the proposed sales go through...?

Stop being a fanny, and get that swine flu seen too!

...........................

Heard big news today.. don't know about the truth in it but here it goes...

Leitch was offered the job immediately and knocked it back due to being told (some of this stuff we already know)

Clarkson - Cardiff 750k

McLean -

Smith - - All freebies.. Hughes to Aberdeen, McLean to Hearts Buzz??

Hughes -

And........

Paul Quinn, also to Cardiff!!!

Being left with 5 bigger players leaving and not being able to have a single penny to spend despite receiving over a million pounds this summer.. it looks like once the club tell the managerial candidates this we may really struggle for a manager and a full team!

Crisis Imminent? or all talk...

Eh Frazza B?

Eh what?

None of the two transfers you've mentioned have happened.

I'm just a bit worried that the players quoted in that article are from Stockport, arent they in League 2? Our standard is alot higher than that IMO, look how easily we pumped Bradford!

That would be my guess. Typically, players' contracts expire at the end of June, so I imagine there will be some increase in activity next month.

I do think with the uncertainty over TV money etc. north and south of the border, there will definitely be some good deals that can be made.

Interesting to read today that Gannon maybe bringing in up to 8 players. http://www.thesun.co.uk/scotsol/homepage/s...ng-changes.html

Given we are expecting to be without Clarkson, Quinn, Smith, Hughes, McLean, Sheridan and Klimpl from last season's first team squad (I've not mentioned Malcolm because for the last 6 months of the season, he wasn't really in the squad), then 8 would be a bare minimum to add to what was a thin squad last season. Adding 8 players with hopefully the progress of the likes of Saunders, Forbes and Hutchison, will hopefully give us something resembling a squad. The names mentioned are simply evidence that journalists can make the same connections that we on this forum can.

Oh, and, was Chris Porter not a league one player before coming here? I think we should try and not judge players on where the manager sources them from...
